I realize this is a photography forum, but I thought I'd ask a Premiere question...just for the heck of it!

I borrowed my brother in law's high-end 3CCD professional camcorder for some work I was doing. I shot the footage in "letterbox" mode (basically widescreen). In Premiere, I set the project up as DV Widescreen (i.e. 16:9 aspect ration). When I started importing the video, it looked fine in the capture window. But when I was done importing it and actually put the video segment on the timeline, to start editing it, it started looking very strange in the preview window...upper right corner of the screen.

Normally, a widescreen slip will have black bars above and below the clips (sometimes it has nothing, it simply fills the whole widescreen area). However, on this particular project, the footage seems to have "shrunk" and there is black space on all sides of the clip...top, bottom, and even more black space around the left and right sides. When I export the clip as a .mov or .avi file, it looks the same...black space around all sides. It's driving me crazy and it has only done this with the "high end" camera.

I have attached a link with a screenshot of the workspace...showing the black space all around the preview window clip:

Does any one have any idea what MIGHT be the problem? I'd appreciate any help/feedback. Thanks a lot.

I have 1.5 pro.

I am a novice, and can not answer your query.

Here is a thread however that I found that may, or may not be useful.

Just wanted to keep the post alive, one more time. I have a feeling this will be a deadend question...thought I'd ask though! Thanks.

it's hard to tell without knowing lots of details, but at first glance, it looks like the video on your screen is set for 4:3. i have a feeling it is either in the settings, or how it was imported...computers are finicky little things. one thing you could do is instead of setting up your project as a widescreen, just set it up as a normal 4:3. then after importing your video--but before you put it in the timline, select the clip, then in the menu select 'maintain aspect ratio.' it should play now as a normal 16:9. try that and if that doesn't work, pm me and we will see what we can figure out. :)
