No biggie...like I said, I know you some so I gave you the benefit of the doubt that it was just a mistake on words...

You have to understand though, that photographers, for the most part, are very quick to judge as far as copyrighted work (photos or writings) go...not saying you did anything on purpose, believe me. Just that we're always on the lookout for people 'stealing' our photos or passing them off as their own.

Personally, I'd start a new thread, and let this one die...but that's just me.

Naaaa, I am a big boy, I am to blame for my inactions. I do not hide.

I do want to share this HUGE compilation I have gathered, so from this post out I will do it differantly.

I did sense a problem earlier and to those I offended, MK, Beagleboy, and the rest, I am sorry.

just in case all yall thought they were my own fabrication and had some sort of epiphany at that moment. i have to apologize.

i actually learned it here, more specifically the learning thread posted by bear_music.

unsure ifn he will sue me for that or not. i hope this public apology to him will suffice.

thanx

You might be able to convince me to eschew legal action by depositing $50 in my paypal account and promising never to sin again :-)

Almost any shot will look better if you take two or three steps closer to your subject. Filling the frame entirely with your subject will make a terrific difference to your photos.

Alternatively, instead of moving closer, use the Optical or Digital Zoom of your camera to get a close up shot. ...

I would say NEVER EVER use your digital zoom for anything. Shut it off. You can do infinitely better enlarging your image in a photo editor than with digital zoom. Digital zoom ruins the picture and it is irreversible since it is recorded in the original image file.

try all of these things posted - and then take the same scene or subject composed differently and compare so you actually learn why these rules are printed. by doing so all these things will become second nature, rather than a rule you feel obligated to follow.

use color to good effect - study the color wheel, know the complimentary colors - look for scenes where they appear naturally together - create them in combo at home with still life and studio shots.

for instance blue and orange compliment each other - but not necessarily in equal proportions - generally this combination should be 1/5 orange & 4/5's blue. or close to it. other combinations fall into different proportions.

learn how to break the rules to good effect.

for instance, and some may argue, one rule i break consistenly is the centered subject. by leading the eye along the rule of thirds to the center a centered subject can work. here is an example.

-

another example of breaking this rule is to create symmetry. the focal point of this image is the base of the glasses - the eye then follows the stem both up and down leading away from the center. it's both balanced and un balanced at the same time.

create tension/curiosty to force the viewer to think about your image. let the viewer create their own story behind the image. what is he looking at? what is he thinking about?

study how natural light works. examine the same subject at different times of day to see how the light changes the subject.

notice how a sun low in the sky generally adds drama to the subject - where as a midday sun tends to take the drama away.

learn how to use your cameras metering system. they are all slightly different. the camera does not see light the same as your eye and you need to learn to see light like your camera does in order to force it to capture what your eye is actually seeing.
