Outdoor photography at a distance. What do you think, is there hope for me?
I live in the desert, finding color is sometimes very hard. This photo is just a little of the beauty of the desert even tho it lacks "color".

Sure Christine, there is hope :) Your photo is indeed cute, but the ground squirrel is so very small! The focus is perfect, down to the catchlight in his eye, and the red sandstone is very attractive. I would crop this as tightly as your camera resolution allows, and while I was at it, compose it so that the little fellow was not quite so centered. Oh, and welcome to dpc!! :) |

Yep I would say that is an improvement. Now, though, it seems to me that the crop can still be improved by positioning him so that there isn't so much area behind him showing, and more in front. I think a more vertical (less square) crop would work, with a bit more room ahead of him so that it doesn't look as if he is about to scoot out of the frame.
Top it off with a bit of sharpening, maybe darken the background a bit, and I think you will have done about all you can with this image, at least that's how it looks to me... and you're welcome :) |
