While I hate to sound like a whiner (whimper, whimper) would it be possible to limit the sizes of photos placed in the forums? I am not trying to stifle anyone's creativity or viewing pleasure, but for those of us on dial-up (yep, we really do still exist), it takes forever sometimes. Many times, if I see that a thread contains pictures, I give it a second or two to load, and then just close it and move on.
It also seems that it would help on bandwidth usage, etc. etc. etc.

absolutely. I too would like to encourage a limit...even if voluntarily. |

I almost always post a text link to the full-size image's page, but sometimes include the image thumbnail for just this reason.
A large image can also mess up the display on some browsers .... |

I knew I had another reason -- thanks GeneralE.
I like the thumbnails linking to the fuller sizes as well.

I always stick to the DPC 150k limit and 640px limit

but, in the forums, I think that size is too big. I find it burdonsome, and I am on cable. I often think how those on dial-up cope with it.. and sometimes there are multiple images per post, and then that is within a multi image thread.
I think there is a recurring issue in the forums though... and that is how to code for it properly. There are always broken links. I know there is a tutorial, but I think more needs to be added to that tutorial, or another one added for embedding image links. |
