I recently sent PMs to a few members using the 'Private Message' links on their profile pages, only the messages never got to the intended recipients. This has happened before, many times. IOW, the PM functionality doesn't work very well.
Today, a person picked one of my photos as a favorite, and it shows up in my total number of favorites, but does not show up on the photo's page. I refreshed the page, but it didn't change.

Since PMs go to people's regular email, many of those messages may get trashed by spam filters.
Some of the other stats are only updated once or twice/week. |

You may be right about the spam filter, but such e-mails are clearly marked as being from dpchallenge and I wouldn't expect a DPC member to treat mail from other members as spam. Also, some times the mail does get through.
Oh well, it isn't a life threatening problem anyway. :)

I don't know if this applies in your case, but if I remember right, if the photo picked as a favorite is in an active challenge, the stats (number of favorites) increases, but you don't see who until after the challenge ends. |

This filters often block everything except what's specifically allowed by the user. Often, the ISP will turn the filters on, and unless you know DPC messages are being blocked, you'd have no idea thta you have to go and permit them. |

Yeah, or it could be something like our school e-mail which has built in spam filtering where the only thing you can set is the sensitivity (a numeric value). You can't tell it who is or isn't allowed to e-mail you. I myself set it pretty low and use the filters in outlook to filter specific addresses, but I expect there are a lot of people who just use the school e-mail program and set the filter to high and forget to check their spam folder for things that aren't spam. |
