Just wondering how many people who will be entering in the Color Portrait challenge actually do it for a living, or at least as way to support the equipment addictions.

Portraits are a mainstay of my photographic career. I wouldn't be concerned about me though; the type of portraiture I specialize in generally doesn't do well on DPC.

Just on a rough guess somewhere between 20 - 30 will enter the challenge.
This is based from information gleaned from the forums so I could be completely wrong.

I've made some money from portraits...but I am definitely not comfortable calling myself a professional. I still have too much to learn!

Depends on the definition.

My wife and I started a business this year and have actually booked some income from paying photographic jobs. But of course I still have my day job, and probably will for quite a long time to come.

We're currently in the middle of finishing our basement to be our studio, so I doubt I'll be entering this particular portrait challenge.

Did that answer the question in a round-about way?

Oh, and 99.9% of our portrait work is kids anyways, so... umm... no. :)

I do portraits professionally, part-time, but that doesn't mean any entry I have this week will do better or worse than any other. For the record, I haven't had any paid portrait sittings this week so I'm stuck with my usual group of models (friends/neighbors/etc) to choose from.
