I have a question for the site council or administrators.
When a person wins a challenge (the 3 ribbon winners), do they have to provide a proof (image original) that they really didn't do any retouching and the photo was taken in the specified dates?
Or enyone who doesn't get a DQ request is trusted by the web site?
How does it work?
The reason I am asking is that I have give a very hight score to a photo that I believe is amazing. But it looks very clean. It could be ok, but it could also have been retouched. I do not want to DQ it, but if it wins, I would like to know if the administrators check the winners for proof.
Thanks a lot.

If you have any doubts, you may click 'Request this photo for Disqualification' and we will look into it.
Currently, the photos that win are not checked, but there has been talk of adding a policy of checking the top 10 or something, but this is still just talk.

I for one would love to see this happen, at least with the top 5 for each challenge. |

Well that would cost somebody had to put some efford into looking at all that files....
are the admins ready to do that?

its not only looking at the files, its uploading the files, using up server space, etc etc. also, some lower end cameras do not provide exif.

Well, due to this, I wonder how many people are actually getting away with spot editing and older photos...

Timmi,
If they do "get away" with using older photos or spot editing, I figure they're not winning much and they're screwing themselves out of getting what DPC is really about: community evaluation and comments. If someone uses a pic from 2 months ago or they spot edit and someone doesn't catch it then its not like they're cheating the rest of us outta a chance at prize money or anything.
I'm happy knowing that my photos comply with the challenges no matter how bad they are because I continually work on the facets of my photography that people point out as being deficient. On the Garden challenge someone requested that my photo be DQ'd so I supplied my original with EXIF data and the steps I used to produce the picture and the site admins posted a message stating that I truly did shoot that crappy a picture. :)
I figured it was nothing personal and just went on to the next photo challenge trying to better my skills based on the useful comments I got from other community members. In my opinion, although others had to look at the crappy shot I composed or the poor job of lighting I did, I was the one that profited by listening and trying to change my style to produce what I really wanted to produce in the first place: a quality image of something that I saw.
Just my $0.02.

I have to assume that 99% of the people who enter the challenges have the same motivations I do. They just want to have a project and improve thier ability to take photos that are better than anything they have done before and to do it with integrity. Unfortunatly we will always have that 1% that may not use the best judgement. |

Personally, I just don't see this as an issue. All that's at stake here is pride. Someone might cheat and not get caught, but what have they really won? I wouldn't ask the admins to waste their time checking pics when nobody suspects foul play.

Thank you everyone for your input. I guess I should care more about learning to take better picrtues than about others. If they want to cheat, then that's their loss. But thanks anyway.
