Sorry Team Pentax, I bombed on this one. I'll be lucky if it scores a 5. I hope you guys are all getting your usual high scores. Because I'm sure not helping. When this is over please take a look and tell me where I went wrong.

Bring on week 5!

Don't worry Larus, DrJOnes isn't competing in Week 4, he will be with us for Week's 5 and 6. Here's hoping for a "nude" challenge :)))))

In that case we have to relax the major element rule for that challenge :)

Just wait to season 2 of the WPL. I have been working on it since the beginning of this season. Your going to love it. Basically the same but I will give you a teaser on some new features.

1. More teams
2. You will play teams in your division along with teams in other divisions.
3. Handicap scoring system ( this will be fun and fair).
4. Quicker updates because of database system.
5. And more....

So if you want to be in season two start gathering up your team of 7 and get them ready. Have them waiting for when season two is announced.

For now enjoy WPL-Season 1.

Now this feature doesn´t sound appealing to me, especially if you are going to use a persons average to calculate a "handicap". A persons average doesn´t really say anything about their ability to date. For example, I have a 6.3 average and Rikki a 5.8 average, that´s just because he sucked when he first started here but now, well I am not going to say he´s better than me, I have too big of an ego than that but he´s definately not worse than me, let alone 0.5 point worse than me :)

I just have to say that a handicap system really doesn´t appeal to me unless it´s very very very minimal.

Perhaps a handicap system based on your last 10 entries?

Or even a progressive handicap system based on each round of the WPL???

Now THAT would be something to consider. At the start, everybody is at 0. Then each GB (game behind) that you are behind the team you are going up against, you gain a .1? So if a team that have a 3-0 record is competing against a team that has 0-3 record, the "underdog" should get a 0.3 plus to their team score?

Except if you lose to the Mag 7 in the first week with a 7.0 ave compared to a 7.03 average, you could take a 0.1 point advantage into a match against a team who only won with a 5.1 average against a 5.08...

Look all I am saying is that handicap systems are off for me... I think you can count me out of season 2 if you are going to implement one unless it´s just a small handicap with little effect.

I mean, otherwise you would just do well to stock your team with people like Joey Lawrence or Rikki, people that do very well in challenges today but didn´t start out so hot when they started here.

I agree, I'm not really a fan of the handicap system either.

Lets wait and see what Scott has planned, I'm sure it will be fair for all concerned and in the best interest of competition for the WPL.

If it is unfair I'll be the first to bleat!

How about just balancing the teams out a bit more? One way we can do that is holding a draft. For example:

1. Everyone that participated in WPL 1 are automatically added to the draft pool (minus whoever drops out).

2. We hold a signup period for anybody else interested in joining the draft pool.

3. We assign captains for each team. With the existing teams a captain will be appointed by the end of season one. Say Bear Music for Team Outcasts is appointed the captain officially. Bear would then be drafting the new Team Outcasts for season two. If he doesn't want to paricipate then someone else will get assigned and so on.

4. We conduct the draft. Draft order determined by season one results and any new teams are added to the bottom of the order on a first come first serve basis. Not hard to a draft over IM or even here since only those that are captains will be drafting. If you can't be available just submit a cheatsheet that includes everyone in the draft pool so that Southern Gentleman or whoever can go by to make your picks.

Anyway, just a thought.

This makes much more sense to me than a handicap if the goal is to make things more even.

Would be a shame to split up some great teams, teams that have bonded well from WPL Season 1.

You could always try and draft your season one teammates after all Team Pentax is overrated and I doubt you guys would be top draft choices anyway. :P

Years ago I was a scatch bowler, competed against other league scatch bowlers and non pro scratch & handicap tourneys. I really had to step up my game to compete. Guess what I'm saying is a handicap system can work, just the big boys need to step it up even more. I always took that as a nice challenge...just my 2 cents.

edit; just got to live wiht my typos....lol

The handicap system I'm currently look at is molded from the 200@80% bowling system. Here is what it would be like.

Since 5.5 is the actual scale average then the handicap will be based on that to the photographer only gets 80% of the difference.

To start the season the photographers handicap will be based on there average.

Photographer A = 5.2000 (5.5000-5.2000/.80) = handicap of 0.2400
Photographer B = 5.5000 (5.5000-5.5000/.80) = handicap of 0.0000
Photographer C = 6.0000 (5.5000-6.0000/.80) = handicap of -0.4000 = 0

That's if the handicap system in implemented. Still just thinking about it.

The main thing I am working on now is having it where teams play teams in there own division as well as other divisions. That way you can control your destiny to a degree instead of waiting on a team above you to loose.

EDIT to add: I would ask for user input because I want what the majority wants.

I was just thinking about this one as well. The teams that are in the WPL automatically get berths for the upcoming season. We'll have expansion teams of however many. Let's say there is an additional 5 teams with a designated captain for each. The five expansion teams get to draft first then followed by the last place finisher in this years WPL and so on until we reach the champion of this years inaugural challenge ;)

Better I think IMHO than a handicap ;) This way, the talent is spread out.
