Wow! As I judge the "candid" images, I am saddened by the large number of photos displaying human beings in various stages of personal tragedy. Seems to be opportunistic photography to me. Truly sad to see so much intrusion and exploitation of tragedy, rather than the "candid" spirit of the challenge.

An honest inquiry.... Who took it upon themselves to create the "extra" condition in this challenge that candid images can only be valid if taken of human beings? I don't read that in the challenge description.

I too belive animals can be quite candid. Dogs can have dorky faces, cats can fall off things, but I think in order to do well in a competition the animals have to incite emotion. They can't just sit there and be boring.

Sit, there...boring...? If I had gotten this a day earlier THIS would have been my candid entry!!

see that's inciting emotion. I laughed so hard my sides hurt. I really wish this was in on time. It would have been a 10 from me.

Little interest here for me I'm afraid. Just **************** is what I get from it and I find nothing that speaks to me beyond that. I do like the tones and the dof, but as a candid and in what I like to see in them, this just doesn't do it for me. It's a 3 vote for me.

i recieved this comment on my entry. now, this is a perfectly fine image. no problems with focus, composition, exposure. not a stop you dead in the street stare at it pic, but it's not bad.

am i being naive in thinking that just because you don't like the style of an image, you shouldn't mark it down? i reserve under 5 for images that actually have something wrong with them. i'd give my own a 5 or a 6. it's a nice, harmless image. but a 3? that just seems petty to me...

Why is it that "candid" to 90% of people means "I don't have to focus my camera"? I am appalled at the blurry, artifact-y, poorly shot snapshots in this challenge. Some images would have been worth a 7 or even 8 if the photographer just bothered to focus properly, and instead they're in the 4 range, if that.

Xianart, I think what you may be runing into is that interest is especially important in candid shots where you can't control other aspectsof the photo. You can't just take a picture of some people, you have to find an interesting moment, expression, movement, theme, etc. Otherwise, it's just a snapshot.

I recieved the same comment she must be pasting it into all immages she does not think meet his standards of his pics (which by the way are not that special) sHe does seem to think he is quite the expert though good for her at least someone does.

Ha! I got a coveted 4! But my subject was too easy to capture.

Some people... ;)

Just to say though, every other one of the comments I received, good and bad, are much appreciated.

If it makes you feel better, they likely agree with you (I certainly do) about the other non-candid shots in the challenge. Might want to remove the specific reference, though :)

yeah, at this point, my score and her comment doesn't matter. on the other hand, comments like the ones i got from you, courtenay, and ed (e301), more than make up for the dips in the road ;-)
