I ran across this cool little tool called Exposure Plot - It runs through all the EXIF data and puts it into nice little charts (okay, it's slow as anything but you know, it's not something to run every hour).

So what did I find for me (this is a me me me post until the end :) :-

ISO - I mostly use 400/800 although 3200 was the larger of the rest. I was surprised that 100 is not use as much as I thought while 200 and 1600 made sense since they are sort of one nor the other.

TV - I seem to shoot mostly between 1/25 and 1/640 with a blob around the 5-10 seconds. Nothin odd here apart from a large blob between 1/25 and 1/60. I should be seeing a lot more fuzzy stuff with that stat but not sure why I don't.

AV - I mostly appear to use 1.8, 2.8, 4.0 & 5.6. I also have the 20D set to 1/3 increments and while I have a reasonable number on the 1/3 spots, it's like a flat even line outside of those 4 until f/11 where I apparently stop for the most part. Interesting that my 3 main lenses have a min of 1.8, 2.8 & 4.0. I guess this confirms that I am a thin DOF feind. Also interesting is that I mostly shoot in this mode, and this is the variable I am setting manually :-)

Length - Confirms what I have thought for some time; I need a 24-105L :-). Seriously (well I was but you know); Most are between 45 and 120 with a spike at 120 (happens to match full length of my tammy 28-75), another huge spike at 135 and a reasonable spike at 320 (end of my 70-200). The 135 is there because of the 85f1.8 lens and since I see a lot of f1.8, I suspect I know what is happening here :-)

Sorry to boar you with an essay but I just thought it was interesting.

Do you have an idea of where you shoot most? Where and why do you think?

I'll have to check it out later. I'm wondering whether the info is useful if it's only from a single shoot, or if finding average usage over a month or something makes more sense.

That's a good point, this sort of stat is more useful over longer a time period to even out a shoots specific conditions or requirements. In this case it covers about 9 months that I have owned this camera. I suspect breaking it down by lens (there is a filter thingi, so it's possible) might help by removing the primes and help with the zooms by telling how much of a specific lens is been used but no doubt I will play around (as stats nerds would and besides, it's another excuse not to take photos :).

Edit: To add the length above is converted to 35mm equals - I have a 1.6 crop.

I got some strange results. Apparently it doesn't analyze RAW but rather JPG however I use Save as Web in PS so I thought most of that data gets stripped. In any case here is what the report said about me:

ISO: Far and away I used ISO 100.

Lens Length: 280mm? I don't use my extender that much but apparently has me using that focal length the most (by a large margin over 50mm). I think there must be some mistake there. Edited to add: I guess it also analyzes tiffs and I have a bunch of tiffs still on my computer that I used the extender with.

Aperture: f/10 followed by f/9 and f/5.6. I thought I used f/8 the most but apparently not.

Shutter Speed: Between 0.03 and 0.02.
