So I have what I am planning on doing for jump.

My question is how much dodge and burn is suggested? I would need to do a pretty significant amount to get the effect I am wanting, but don't know if this is recommended. If it changes the general idea and feel of the picture, is it grounds for DQ? Or do many people just vote low?

Thanks!

I think you can dodge and burn forever without a DQ in advanced editing. You can look at some past top 20 entries and see much burning and dodging.

You have to be good at it though...or you will score low!

If still in doubt...check with someone on SC.

Dodge and burn is something you can do quite a bit of without too much worry. I'd say you'd only really need to be concerned if you were using it to introduce a new element into your shot that wasn't there before.

In other words, if you dodged a specific area enough to create the impression that a strong beam of light was shining where that didn't exist before, then you're getting into possible DQ territory. In that case, you're likely adding a major element.

Yeah, it's kinda late, but if any SC are around, you could ask it they could give you an opinion. Remember, it is not an official ruling, but they can give you a pretty good idea if it would be legal or not.

As far as votes, yeah, that is a hard one. If it looks 'over-processed', it could probably suffer low scoring. If really well done, and it fits and looks good, could do well :-)

Can I email you the pictures for a suggestion?

Sorry I headed off to bed before having a chance to respond to you there... I didn't mean to blow you off.

In the future, it's always best to use the Ticket System to send us an image to review (preferably a little earlier than a couple hours before the challenge begins, though... :)
