Great spring weather, time to shoot.

This is the first time I've approached people to ask if I could shoot them or their kids (you know what I mean). It's a great way to talk to very interesting people.

Comments are certainly welcome.

Beautiful shots - I love the tones and shadows.

I really love the first and last one. I think the last one is an absolutely incredible shot! Just as a side question...What did you say to them when you walked up to them and asked them..I am a little bit shy when it comes to doing that.

That last shot is AWESOME!

Is that for real?

Sometimes I look at a post like this, and everybody's saying "awesome" and stuff, but I am far from impressed.

This is different. All 3 photos are terrific IMHO with the 1st and 3rd being strongest. Great job. Keep asking folks. It seems to work for you!

The girl by the drinking fountain:

I said: "I noticed you look very nice next to the fountain, can I take your picture". She immediately starts posing, I snap a few and say "thank you!" she relaxes and I take this photo. Her parents are just over my shoulder, so I turn to them and say "I'm friends of Charles (lives just down the street from the park, and I know he knows them) so I'll send a photo via email so you can see how pretty she is in this light". Of course they are very pleased and say they are looking forward to seeing what I did.

The lady and the kid.
I just sat down on the basketball court and start taking pictures of the kid. She says "why are you taking his photo?". I say "he's really really cute and he looks great in this light". Her: "no, I mean what for?". I say "because if I don't take photos I get depressed and my wife won't let me sleep in my house if I'm depressed". She makes a face. I say "really, I just love photography, and love the composition of you and your kid alone on the court. Here's my card, send me an email and you can have the photo." She says warily "how much money do you want". I said "TONS - but not a dime from you. I'll just send it along". She turns to her boy, asks him to come over and they strike this pose, more or less, I took about 4 photos of them.

Kids playing ball. I sat down to start taking photos and they picked up their balls and started to leave - I think they had just had enough - they weren't leaving because of me. I said "hey, come back". They say "why do you want to take our picture" I say "because this basketball court looks a LOT more interesting when you are playing on it". OK they say and come back and play some more.

I told them I could make them look cool and took these. Told them to email me and they could make a poster for their rooms from the photo I send them in email. The both took a card. I told them to tell their parents that I didn't want any money - that seems to be a big deal with people - they think I'm slumming for ten bucks - I try to put that to rest right away.

I basically try to communicate to them that I'm willing to do something for them for free if they just let me take their photos - keep it light, sometimes I state that I'd be glad to impose on someone else in the park. They either jump right on it, or say "ok take someone else's photo". Make them feel good about themselves, and offer a part of you (you're talent) and they seem to respond.

However, Alecia (pearlseyes here on DPC) was with me, and she was so uncomfortable imposing on these people she went off and shot other stuff. So it's not for everyone I guess. Part of the fun is meeting other interesting people as well as the photography.

Haven't heard from any of them, but I did forward the photo of the girl to Charles to forward to her parents.

Very nicely done, Doug. I agree with the others, the first and last are strongest, but the last one especially, is absolutely awesome. To bad there was't a DPC challenge for you to throw that one into.
