This just hit me. Every five years there is a 24hour nation-wide "24hours in the life of New Zealand". Thousands of photographers take to the streets to record on one day every facet of life. they publish a very large an lavish book from it.
We could use the idea to good effect for a long-running series
- A day in the life of policemen
- A day in the life of teachers
- A day in the life of cabbies
- A day in the life of dustmen
etc etc
Some of them would be very tough .. isn't that great

Cool idea :-)
And, along that same line, inspired by that same thing, what about haveing a 24 hour speed challenge - A day in the life of...
Like just a typical day in the life shot, of anyone. |

And having just woken up I've thought of another wrinkle to the idea of a series of challenges like this.
One time it can be a Member Challenge, the next an Open Challenge.
That way both teams get to have a go and the difference in editing rules would produce some interesting comparisions. We would soon see if post-production means as much as the original idea and execution of the picture taking.

Wonderful idea!
Since it is a rather loose and open challenge in most cases, the topic haters shouldn't feel too restricted and stifled in their creativity.
If it was a regular thing, then it wouldn't matter so much if a particular one doesn't work with our life/location/time allowance/season etc - we can just skip it, and wait for the next one. |

i just thought of something. if this was done as a challoenge, wouldn't it be great if we could tag our submission with the hour it represents, then votes could be tallied as per the hour, ending up with 24 winners, representing a whole day in 24 different lives.
or is that mad?

In the United States, they are called garbage collectors.

There were books published like that in the US. It was called 24/7. They published a book for the United States as a whole, then each state had their own book with images only from that state taken by photogs from those state. It was pretty much limited to photojournalists, but they did have a few pics in each book from amateurs. It sounds to me like the New Zealand thing is/was similar to this. |

This idea's a little different. Those books were focused on a region, these would be focused on a specific occupation as practiced around the world. |

Hmm... I already have a project planned almost exactly along these lines. With this title. Thought I'd let you know now in case anyone gets upset when it happens.
