Friend and Brother Bear, be careful even in jest.

Now a dayz you can never tell who may be reading our posts.

Keep a watchful eye out for any silent, black Sikorskis hovering above you.

(MR. NSA person, this is just a study, no nukes will be used, unless it's a new type of SLR battery.)

Brother Horse, I have no fear; I am near the end of my daze, as it were, or as ZZ has said (more or less) the beginning has ended and the end has begun :-)

I have this in a book of quotes I've accumulated over the years. Some other relevant ones:

I refuse to accept the idea that the "isness" of a man's present nature makes him morally incapable of reaching up for the "oughtness" that forever confronts him.
-Martin Luther King, Jr.

A friend of mine wrote this one in 1990:

You there!
Yeah you, the one so silent
I challenge you to change your world
I dare you.
Donât turn away, donât be afraid
Donât walk out on me
Just try
I ask you
Save the world!
(Sounds pretty tough, no?)
Just help one life at a time
I beg you.
One person canât rebuild a universe
I know better.
Iâve been trying forever all alone
and Iâm weary.
You there!
Yeah you, eyes starting to see...
Soul starting to hope...
Mind starting to work...
Heart starting to help...
Save the world
One person at a time
Itâs not so hard.
I dared you, and you answered.
-Heather Stamm

Whatâs the world for if you canât make it up the way you want it?
-Charles de Lint

We must come to see that human progress never rolls in on wheels of inevitability. It comes through the tireless efforts and persistent work of men willing to be co-workers with God, and without this hard work time itself becomes an ally of the forces of social stagnation. We must use time creatively, and forever realize that the time is always ripe to do right.
-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., from Letter from Birmingham Jail

That's a great one. I'm adding it to my list.

Every thinking person has wanted to change the world, mostly when they are young.

Why do you want to change the world? Actually thatâs a serious question. There are plenty of people, couples, politicians, groups, companies, countries, religions and such that consider it eminently satisfactory, just the way it is, thank you. They will not love you for your passion for change.

Are you unhappy with your world? Valid reason to change!

Are you unsatisfied with someone elseâs world and want to âsaveâ them? Caution here!

Or are you simply an anarchist?

My advise, get focused on the goal you want to achieve, and unfocused on change as a goal in and of itself. Then devote every waking moment to the goal, every synapse to defining how to do it. Become totally unbalanced in your pursuit of your goal. Be prepared to surrender your sanity to it; Your life to it; Your freedom to it; Your wealth to it; Your health to it; Your happiness to it; and Your salvation to it. If itâs a worthy goal, your salvation will take care of itself. And you just might make a difference.

i think first you need an evil plan, then you need an evil lab, and try and do an evil laugh, i think stroking a cat while doing the evil laugh will put you on the right track :)

Ah! The "Pinky and the Brain" strategy!

"Pinky, are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
"Well I think so Brain, but me and Pippi Longstockings? What would the children look like?"

Wow. That's a pretty heavy statement.

As mentioned before, the Earth is fine just the way it is (if for no other reason that it's a huge rock in space and if that is the definition of 'fine' then it's fine... certainly in days long past where there was no oxygen and no water, it was in a totally different state, but there were no people here to judge whether it was fine or not, so we begin to see the context of 'fine')

But as for there being plenty of people, couples, politicians, companies, countries and religions that think it's fine based on the state of human affairs? I'd have to say that this is a pretty shallow and self-centered view. Certainly an attitude that speaks of extreme laziness and lack of fellow feeling. To those who have such a narrow view, the entire concept of "changing the world" has little to do with anything beyond their own proverbial back yard. As such, their POV is specifically irrelevant to an individual who has seen something that makes him feel that there is indeed something worth changing in the world. Or perhaps this is just what you meant...

Individuals carry out their lives in complete ignorance of their neighbors. People commit suicide from loneliness that live amongst other people in apartment buildings. The role of simple human caring can (although I can personally attest that it does not always) make a huge difference.

A VAST number of people live in awful circumstances, plagued with poverty, hunger and curable illnesses. None of this is necessary.

Politicians almost universally have both a narrow view of issues and a self-serving one. The rare politicians that don't, don't usually last too long in that field.

Companies are notorious abusers of other people as well as the natural world. Even the companies that work with so-called organics and natural processes are not always above reproach.

Religions... well how could they possibly say that the world is 'fine' right now... except that this view often mirrors the view of politicians quite closely. I won't go into this any more to prevent 'rant'.

No, there's a lot out there that could use a change. But my feeling is that so little actually has changed that perhaps it's the case that change is not really what we think it is.

There have been a few who have instigated change. Major inventions and discoveries have improved man's quality of life tremendously.

Louis Pasteur. Thomas Edison. Nikolai Tesla. The Curies. All of these people 'changed' the world. Their ideas alone were not enough. They also had to put tremendous hard work into putting their ideas into the world arena against sometimes massive opposition. And yet, in a greater sense, even this did not really change the world.

Mankind still behaves the same towards each other as we did 2000 years ago, 4000 years ago and more.

We just happen to live longer and dress in different clothes.

That's why it's not for us to change the world.

Either that or I might just have said that in reference to the "ONE MILLION DOLLARS" plan... There's a distinct possibility that such a plan might also have some major flaws...

No way, I have to call BS on this one.

PLEASE.......peeps are not the same they were even 50 years ago. or 25 years ago. People change and for the better...over time.

You go ahead and think what you like. That's fine.

I have seen little evidence that people have significantly changed in the basics.

People still want the same things. They want to be happy, they want a reasonably comfortable life. They want to have a family and they want to have friends. They want security.

People treat each other roughly the same too.

Your perspective may be different and lead you to different conclusions.

I agree with that.

Now I retire from the thread. : )

Do a single thing in your own small world and it starts the ripple effect.

One of my favorite songs:

If I can reach the stars,
Pull one down for you,
Shine it on my heart
So you could see the truth:
That this love I have inside
Is everything it seems.
But for now I find
Itâs only in my dreams.

And I can change the world,
I will be the sunlight in your universe.
You would think my love was really something good,
Baby if I could change the world.

And if I could be king,
Even for a day,
Iâd take you as my queen;
Iâd have it no other way.
And our love would rule
This kingdom we had made.
Till then Iâd be a fool,
Wishing for the day...

That I can change the world,
I would be the sunlight in your universe.
You would think my love was really something good,
Baby if I could change the world.
Baby if I could change the world.

I could change the world,
I would be the sunlight in your universe.
You would think my love was really something good,
Baby if I could change the world.
Baby if I could change the world.
Baby if I could change the world.

MR. NSA man, this is just a harmless photography site, this is a harmless study thread. NO killings will be produced, no nukes will be blown up, nothing violent will be taken. Please forgive DANSIG, he is just one of us normal people frustrated with todays world events.
