Butterfly photography is a tricky thing.

They are temperature sensitive, the warmer it is the more active they are and therefore the harder to photograph. Under those conditions what I do to is slip them one of my date rape drugs.... works every time!

NOTE:
If anyone going to the gardens needs a ticket please let me know...

I found both of mine and they need to be used before the end of May.

In this case maybe it would be better to go earlier. Or just bring lots of drugs with us. I have a stash if any of you need :0P

PS Steve, I just PM'd you, I wouldn't mind a bit taking those tickets off your hands! :0) (broke!!!!!) yet still willing to put a lens on my credit card.... hmmm maybe someone else is more deserving... hope you can join us. When is kirbic coming in?

I PMed kirbic to ask when he would be here and said if he gets here by Sunday he'd be welcome to come along.

Regarding the free passes.. you are welcome to use them... they came with my membership.

I get in on my membership pass and I can also take an additional guest with me using the pass. Anybody want a date? LOL!!!

Hi Samantha... I think Linda might have you covered... something will be worked out for you regardless, so not to worry. There are nice, friendly and helpful DPCers around here... wellll, except me, of course.

So you guys are doing this on sunday? I have a photo shoot downtown but It would be nice to meet some DPC'ers.
I could make a detour. DBG are very nice I was there not to long ago to see Sista Blue an all Girl Blues band.

That sounds like the plan to me... Linda, oOWonderBreadOo, seems to be the main organizer. I doubt it is even necessary for everyone to show up at the same time... just get there when you can.

Cool! Just so you know I am 6'8" and I can't be missed. I will be the tallest guy at the DBG so just yell Erick when you see the tall guy!

Ok so looks like all we need to do is set a time. Can we get an "I'm in" & times that will work for you to decide? Thanks.... Laura Laura Laura (why does everyone want to call me Linda?) :0P

Garden is open 8am-8pm

I'm in... Anytime is OK by me!

I hate when people call you Linda, Linda! I'll help you set them strait.

I'll probably go early... less people and slightly cooler termperatures with the butterflys. Be advised the butterfly pavillion opens at 9am and closes at 5pm.

To entice those still undecided about going here are two galleries for the Desert Botanical Gardens:
Steve's Desert Botanical Gardens flora gallery

Steve's Desert Botanical Gardens butterfly collection

Btw... the blonde with the Monarch on top of her head in the butterfly collection is Tina Faust(tfaust on DPC). Tina and Daryl are neat DPC people.

I'm going when Laura is going--the earlier the better, for me--I'm from the midwest, I'm not used to these type of temperatures this early in the year still!

Edit: Oh, crap...literally...what about my dog? My mom's handicapped, and we don't have a backyard in which for her to go out in unsupervised...my mom can't walk her with her cane...any suggestions? Eek! I never go anywhere, so this is new and different for me...

Edit again: We figured it out, nevermind. I can go again. :P

Well I am late to the party as usual. I would love to go out shooting, but can not this weekend. Any one up for something next weekend? I really do not care where or what, I just need to get out and shoot!

Barbara

Maybe I can do next weekend too, depending on where. :)

Well, next weekend is mine & my daughters birthday and easter so I'm out. Another time hopefully :0)

Sam could you PM me your info? I'll be out most of the day tomorrow so I just want to make sure I have everything I need. I'm thinking around 9:30 or 10 but I have to see what Steve says. (When he offered up his tickets I asked for both of us.) Very cool of him I might add :0)
I'll call you or e-mail to let you know exact times...
looking forward to it! :0)

Keep in mind the ironman is going in Tempe on this Sunday and might interfere with being able to get to the DBG.

I'd like to join. Just not sure If I'd be able to do it this weekend. Keep me posted on when you are going.

Ironman huh? Might catch something for the "jump" challenge that is due that day. Doesn't look like I will be able to make the DBG this week after all - at least with the kiddos.

Hi all!
I'm here in PHX, arrived last night. Don't know what the family wants to do, but when we get that straightened out, I'll post back & let y'all know whether I can make it. I'd love to go. The butterfly exhibit sounds like a fun shoot.

Hi Fritz... Welcome back to PHX. Thought you might be in transit when sent the PM.

I forgot I have to teach a photoshop class tomorrow so I cannot got to the gardens then. Dang it! :(

Laura, I sent you a PM to call me for a arrangement to get the tickets, assuming you are still going to go tomorrow. Please check that out and give me a call.

Ok guys, just an update-

Samantha & I will be there at 9am. Steve's PS class was cancelled so he will be there at 8:30. Karla who has not posted here at DPC yet should be coming too and will call me when she knows for sure.

Hope to see you there too Fritz, Steve was telling me a little about your family today :0)

I just got a new lens yesterday so I am itching to use it!!! One from the monarch exhibit in the fall...

Sorry Fritz... I had to tell her about your history of extreme behaviors, homicidal tendencies, cruelty to small, defenseless mammals and... GASP!... voting for George Bush! She beat it out of me!

Since kirbic is back in town we will try to work out a time to go on another photo safari to include BAMartin, KMote and others unable to attend tomorrow. I have not seen Barbara in a month of Sundays. We will start putting that together in the next day or so.

PM me with suggestions or private meetings for those that might need it. ;)

Sure wished I could have been there with you guys today. It was an amazing day outside today. Care to share any of your pics Steve, Laura, Samantha, and any others who may have made it today? I am going to try for next Saturday or Sunday - it's getting warmer, so I want to take advantage of it before too long.

I'm heading over there tomorrow with my new Canon 5D and 100mm macro. If any of my shots turn out good enough I'll post them.

We had a great time at the Desert Botanical Gardens... weather was perfect and some of the cacti were in bloom. I hope to have some pics up later tonight.

Here are my (hastily) processed pics from today's GTG:

It was great to meet Samantha & Laura, and good to get out with Steve again, even if he does pick on me in the forums ;-)

Hi everybody! Another fellow phoenician here. The Desert Botanical Gardens is an idea I never thought about. I think I may have to schedule some time to go visit. I was wondering, do you guys have any other ideas or spots where to get "fun" photographs around the valley? I'm in the far west corner of the valley and eh... just lots of dirt out here. Well, again, I'm pleased to know there are other phoenix people in this forum and hope to hear from you guys. thanks!

P.S. I was thinking about asking this... anyone know a decent parking spot downtown? I've been wanting to take some nighttime downtown pictures, but I'm always afraid I won't have the cash needed to park (debit guy here), or someone is going to break into my car.
