My son (Brandon, 17) wants to participate in DPChallenge. I know he is old enough to join without my parental consent. He will be using my camera equipment since he does not have his own. He will also be using my computer to because his does not have a card reader or any of the Canon software on his computer. He goes out with me on most of my shoots and takes pictures with me using my camera and I am amazed at his visual composition and artistic talent.
My question is because we will be using the same equipment is it legal for him to be a member of this site and participate in challenges and voting, forums, etc.?
SC? or anyone?

Definitelyâ€Â¦no question in my mind. He is not using your eyesâ€Â¦that is what is the most important part and that will keep the photos that he produces different from yours despite being from the same camera. You know this alreadyâ€Â¦not teaching you anything newâ€Â¦so why did you ask?? That’s the real question!?! Or am I too tired?? Yesâ€Â¦goodnight.

| Just make sure that if you share a computer, you are careful to each log in on your own account and log out again afterwards. You should both have a lot of fun with this. |

The reason I asked was the use of same equipment when taking pictures, editing, and uploading. He can use his computer to go on DPC but he has to use mine to download pictures from camera, edit, and upload because as stated in original post, all Canon software is on my computer including PS/CS and card reader.

Yeah sure is Legal!
Have a look in my profile! Me and my wife, Brother and sister in laws and their son and daughter and my cousin in Holland are all members here. Its great trying to pick out their photo and seeing how they went in a challenge at the end!
Good point from General! Sometimes I'm in my wifes log in and post using her log in :( Gulp.

What I dont understand is; What stops him from installing the software on his PC as well? Then the only shared resource would be the camera equipment. That makes things more convenient for you both. |

Because he has no card reader to download the photos from the camera to the computer. I know he could use the USB link but that's just slow and bothersome.

Sure it's legal, just make sure the SC know about it. A friend of my brother was suspended for multiple accounts -- even though each of the accounts were for family members (several, don't know exact number) living at the same address and using the same computer. At least that's what it sounded like from his description after the fact, he was more than a bit confused about the whole thing.
You've mentioned it here, but it would probably be a good idea to notify the SC specifically when he has is own account.

Probably licensing.
To answer the original poster's question: This is not a problem, but I recommend notifying us via "Help/Contact." Please include both usernames in your email.
Also, be sure you and he are both aware that it is important to vote as objectively as possible on each other's images (or if you feel you can't do that, to not vote on each other's images at all).
Thanks,
~Terry
