My Bro Dave asked me to do a Portrait for his New CD. He is one of the best musicians I know and a hell of a song writer.
Please, if you will, give me a little feed back.

Thanks!
Music Geeks the Bass is a Warwick 5 string.

I would say after he makes his first million make him look mysterious, for now I want to see his face and expressions a bit better. I would think any shot for marketing would want to establish recognition for the artist / product. My 2c. |

Personally I like the first one better, but I agree.... maybe a little more light. |

I tend to agree. I buy music and I like to see the artist a bit more clearly than this. But I like the photographs. How are they with a bit more light?

They are a little lighter in the raw state the color is a little better to. Its just when I saved for web I got that shift in tone.
But the prints look fantastic!
The Face is the front of the CD and the Back of the head is the Back of the CD. My Bro is Dark by nature and he wanted his Images to reflect that ... I guess they do! :-)
Thanks everyone! |

Doesn't tell me anything about his music... although it's well lit it strikes me as unimaginative for a CD cover.
Edit: I hadn't seen the second one... I think it would make a great cover on it's own (the flipping over idea doesn't work for me) if it was a tad lighter.

Cool! I guess it's not the greatest idea and you right it sayes nothing about his music.
How about as a image on the inside cover?
You like the Back of the head better. I will tell him.
I guess round 2 is in order.
Thanks for you input.

I tend to disagree - When I go to buy CD's - this one will definately attract my attention.
I think the mysterious look will also help to make his CD recognisable (WOW, 3 in the morning after being awake 25hours spelling) if other forms of advertisement are used.
CD cover like this will pull my eye if its put between hundreds of other bright eyed and full colour (typical DPC photos) CD's.
IMHO

No Problem - the problem with the other comments is that the people that made them spend much more time in camera shops than in CD-shops. I, on the other hand, find a CD to be MUCH cheaper than a camera/lens etc. I still spend my fair share of time drooling in the camera shops, but I go and buy in CD-shops.

The tonal range might be too tight unless you run very tight controlls over the printing process. If he is pressing the recording with a package deal for the printing of the insert as well, you often get very limited control over the printer, so a wider range might give you less risk of the image sliding into the gloomy dark on the printing run.
eit: if you could pick out the eyes with some pin lights in the second shot to refrence the knobs on the body of the bass, it would be the stronger image, as it is I prefer the first

Yeah. My work flow is calibrated with the print shop I use and a good buddy of mine runs the show. They are a direct to plate house (Heidelberg) so I got that covered.

I will try it! Thanks!

I really like the 2nd one. I think it would actually be great for the back cover, where the track names are listed.
Good luck :)
