Some friends and I have been commenting about if a silhouette it is or not a
Portrait...
What do you think about this? |

I think it would be a portrait of a silhouette.
I remember art class in school where we traced our silhouettes & cut them out on black construction paper.......they called them portraits. I've also seen very old silhouettes of people (black cut outs) going way back, before film. They were there portraits........they didn't have the $$$ for a sketch. So I would definately say that a silhouette would be a portrait. |

Portrait or not, that's a very cool shot. |

Nope..... NOT portrait.
In my opinion a portrait is a recognizable representation of someone, whereas a silhouette is one form of interpretation.
Both have their place, and I do like your particular example a lot!

A profile silhouette would be more of a portrait, IMO. |
