Since the only comment i got for the ENTIRE voting was "what is it?" I would LOVE to know where I went wrong with this photo! I thought it fit the "macro/abstract" challenge perfectly but voters basicaly told me "This sucks big time!"....now I am very curious to know why.Help me understand this PLEASE!!!!!

Hi Cher - well I did not vote on this challenge but Your entry is too dark to make out the lighter (on my work monitor anyway). Maybe thats just it - too dark?

In my opinion it is too blurred. The crop isnt good. And just doesnt look vibrant or interesting.

With 419 entries I tried to get through everyone since I started to vote, I may have commented on about 10...
This image appealed to me because of the intriguing spark, I gave it 5 because for the few seconds I looked at it, I must have not felt much about it in the way of macro or abstract..I know it's difficult to accept an outcome like this when one sees something so nice in an image and the setup seems to perfect, I've been there ;)

Too much negative space, perhaps a tighter crop?

Ah now I see it's a lighter. You should have used that in the image IMO.

now I can see. Looks alot better. Closer crop maybe?

I figured out what it was but took me several times. I gave it it a 6 . But I think it was a bit to centered. I didn't mind the negative black space. I would have liked the original better as well.

I would have done something like this:

S/M/H - USM - Curves - Noise reduction

maybe even an invert. Not that I like it but definately different.
