I am not on a team of any kind, but I really don't think most people are going to go to the effort to "organize" a way to cheat.

Maybe I'm naive, but I just don't think it is happening. If it is, the people involved are just really really sad.

Just remember that everytime you cheat... you make a clown sad!

I concur. Planning a conspiracy takes work.

I prefer play myself:)

just a quick reality check - even if it is happening, with a maximum of 6 other team members after 200 votes even 6 10s can't affect the score by more than about a 1/10th of a point. And if other teams really are voting the rest lower, then all of this is a wash in the end anyway.

we'll see when the results are in; my bet is the best images will win...just like every other week.

Well only 1 comment but it was such a good comment that I am glad I entered! It can finish now and I would be happy.

*Makes mental note* not everyone on DPC understands me!!

thanks!!

Fed up with all this talk about Team this and team that and the ever popular 'conspiracy' theory!!

I HIGHLY doubt that. Though these are called teams, all we're really doing is comparing groups of scores in an otherwise-ordinary challenge. Other than those who have posted in this thread, I have no idea which members have entered, much less which shot is theirs.

Shannon, did you think the people who are doing the vote riging were going to include a SC member in the plot? or tell a SC member about it?

Something has changed. There is a new incentive for people to rig the scores. And the level of trash talking has risen so much in the recent past that the Admins instituted a new set of rules to try to restore civility to these forums.

To say it is not happening is naive for sure, like an ostrich who sticks it's head in the sand. The posts from team members saying the same sort of things must also be discounted except when accounting for themselves personally. It may not be happening to the extent that we can determine empirically that it is going on. But we have always had a conventional wisdom here that says some level of vote riging is inevitable, and it is tolerated because the fix would be more painful than the problem. Now there is an additional level of incentive to lure those who would cheat, individually or collectively. Be assured that additional people have fallen for that lure. An attutude of not seeing, or not believeing that this is happening, on the part of those who are responsible for protecting this community from such cheating does not make me feel confident. In fact such posts can only serve to increase the cheating by telling those who are inclined to rig the voting that the vigilence to catch them is lacking motivation.

I came in here to take a peek at how scores might be coming along...and I found this? Finger pointing, cheating accusations, etc...

What a sad day for this site. Really going down hill, for what? A virtual ribbon, bragging rites?

Come on people - let's just have fun. OK?

As for scores...can't post mine. I'm too embarrassed to post em. ;^)

lol. If we aren't going to have flowers then might as well remove the other cliche shots that make up 99% of the total entries. Voting will then be a snap. :P

It must be a conspiracy, my own team is voting me down....Since my score is just over 4 (was 3.6 after 20votes), not surpised everyone else is voting it down too........lol
I must of missed the secret meeting.....lol

I belong on a team, a team with no SC, no "ringers" nothing so if ANY team was going to do all the things most of you think we would do, it would be us, the longshots. So are we? HELL NO! And why should you take my word for it? Because that is the most valuable thing in the world to me, my word and when I give you my word, you can take it to the bank.

We talk via email, yes. Do we show each other our shots? No. If we did I wouldn't be sitting at a 4.5 on my Yellow, which I thought for sure was going to be in the 6 or higher range. We share our scores with each other, we throw ideas around but we DO NOT tell each other what we are shooting, nor do we show each other. I have trying to leave some message on every picture I have voted on and teh score I leave. If it's low, I explain why. If it's average, I explain why. If it's high, I don't feel a need to explain, just compliment. I may have already left messages on my teammates shots but would not know it. I may have voted them low and would not know it.

Nothing has changed as far as my voting style or commenting. The only thing that has changed is I now have 6 other wonderful photographers to cry to when my score tanks and 6 other wonderful people who boost my ego and support me when my score tanks. The whole site is helpful but it really helps when you have a team behind you supporting you and after the challenge is over we will look at each other's pictures, make comments, suggestion and give them ideas on how to improve, almost like a private Critique Club. Something we could all use and benefit from.

As long as it's yellow, good composition, good lighting, & good focus what's it matter if it's a flower?

You should be voting them based on that, if they meet the challenge and if they have a wow factor only...

Gotta say, if there's cheating going on with the scores in Yellow, I've obviously been left out and I'm not happy about that at all! So come on! Someone from my team go vote on mine (I'm telepathically sending you vibes as to which one it is - hint: it's yellow) and vote high, like maybe a 5!

Sheesh.

I am... I gave a few flowers some pretty high scores (8's & 9's), it's just that I am developing a twitch everytime I see another one pop up on the screen for voting. In fact I'm not sure of there is a medical term yet, but I am pretty sure that I have developed a fear of dafodils.
Dafophobia perhaps??

Boy. There sure is a lot of paranoia going on in here!

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person around who trusts other people to be as good as their word. Is it really all that foolish to be giving people the benefit of the doubt? Especially when there's been NO evidence of cheating presented to anyone that I know of?

Is it just fun to jump on the 'bandwagon' when somebody mentions the possibility of cheating? Of course there's a possibility of cheating. That's why rules were put in place and why they're enforced. But why accuse anybody of cheating without proof? And if you think about it, in this thread alone, not just one but 84 people have been accused of cheating simply by virtue of the fact that they are on a team. Not exactly fair, if you ask me - and not just because I happen to be on one of those teams.

Frankly, I think a much more even-handed and honest method of investigating any suspicions of cheating would be to ask SC members who are not participating in the WPL to investigate in any cases where there is reason to suspect cheating. But hey. That's just my opinion, and I know that because I happen to be on one of these teams my opinion is likely to be discounted as being 'defensive'(as though that automatically makes my opinion 'suspect').

And by the way, I want to say thank you for doubting my integrity for no reason. That really made my day.

The forum rules were in progress long before there was any suggestion of team challenges.

Despite the apparent paranoia, there is no cheating with team scores. Really. If a voter gave his team all 10 scores (for whatever insignificant difference it would make) and voted the other teams down (difficult when you don't know who entered what), Langdon could spot the pattern and impose a permanent ban on the offender. The vast majority of team members have been around here long enough to know better. Besides, if somebody tried to organize group voting, it would be reported. Most of our members have enough integrity to keep it fair.

I've just seen some grumblings about this topic. It was actually some work getting a hold of my subject, but it turned out that a couple of others decided to shoot the same cliche which I thought was pretty cool.

You know what might cure that? A Fotoman Cheese Challenge. After you get done voting in that challenge you might glue dafodils on your retinas. :P

Yeah....so I'm much to lazy to try and raise my score by .2 points through my teammates. This is all for fun for me anyways. Team KM, I hope we do alright this round otherwise we gotta enter the other challenges!

Conspiracy Theorists should take a second to do the math, just as hinted at by Pedro and Scalvert earlier in this thread. I'm not a math major but its pretty easy to figure out that a few 10 votes will not amount to much in the end (assuming a second gunman).

Yellow had over 400 submissions. I think if these FOR FUN(and bragging rights) competitions increase participation in the challenges then its a good thing. I'll bet everyone's yellow entry gets more votes than normal for a member challenge.

BTW, I voted all tens because we had nothing but rain in march and I'm ready for spring :)
