Here's the deal. I want to shoot some of the older buildings in the city here, more specifically the old ads painted on the sides. They're faded and aged and I think they'd make some great shots. I'm also thinking that if the stars smile on me, I may be able to make a little book out of it and maybe interest somone around here in it. You know, a historical record sort of thing.
My question is, do I need a release from each building owner to do this? I'm new to releases and am fuzzy on them still, but I think I do...but wanted to ask y'all to be sure.

You shouldn't need a release to take the pictures, but they can chase you off if they see you doing it and have PMS or something.
I think you'd need a release to sell photos of the artwork in a book though. |

You might not need a release to sell a book or prints, depending on where you were standing when you took the picture, and (to some extent) the way the material is presented. For a project as involved as a book, you need to do more research than getting opinions here; some suggestions:

Shouldn't need a release for historical artwork (old faded ads) on the sides of historical buildings.

Thank you all! It is wonderful to have a group I can turn to with questions like this.
An extra shout-out to GeneralE for the links :D
