Anyone here planning on doing this ride this year? Anyone done it in the past?
My son and I are considering it. It's longer in days than I'd like (8 days) but mileage is ok at around 50 miles a day.
What I'm wondering is what do they do on a rainy, stormy, day? I love to ride, but not in the rain! I'd rather do 100 miles in nice weather the next day than 50 in the rain and worse, in a storm.
Anyway, if anyone's interested, Here's the website:

Bump!
I'll expand my question. Has anyone gone on a similar multi-day organized ride (ride 50, camp, ride 50, camp...) What do they do when it rains (and thunderstorms)? Do they ride anyway to stay on the schedule?

I've wanted to do this type of thing numerous times, but something's always come up to stop me. Hope you have lots of fun (and no saddle sores). |

Neil, a bunch of folks I know have done RAGBRAI - the Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa. Total of about 500 miles with I think seven days of riding. Most ride as part of a "team" so if you don't want to ride one day, you can drive the support vehicles instead. I do know that they ride regardless of the weather, though. If it rains, they ride. I think the only time they'll pull riders off the road (and I don't know where they go if they do!) is during electrical storm activity.
I'd planned on attempting it this year but my schedule just doesn't permit. Sounds like it would be great fun, though! And 50 miles a day is definitely do-able. |

Thanks, I figured it will be something like that. I'm going to email them. I have trouble with the "notion" of riding four to five hours in a heavy downpour. I remember getting caught in one once and the rain was beating me in the face, and by the time I got home (which wasn't even far), my sneakers were soaked through. But I may not have a choice!
