Here is the version I submitted...

Here is an alternate I considered but i went with the color because it was a campfire providing the light so it was naturally very warm in color.

Any opinions? Good choice?

I'll gladly return any comments. tx,

I like the one you submitted much better and scored it high.

It seems as many low key images are BW. This was my first attempt so i guess thats why the question was raised in my mind when submitting the pic.

I too like the submitted version best. The color warmth of lighting is more appealing to my eye with this image. Also a much better match to the title.

I like the frame from the B&W one better, and I think I might even be leaning a little more towards the B&W one overall becasue the smoke seems more present.

I prefer the color version. With so many people assuming low-key should be B&W, I think it stands out more in the challenge.

You really lost the ambience of the shot in B&W, so I think you made the right choice.

Edit: BTW, I rated your image an 8. Might have given it a ten, but it appears a bit over-sharpened. Your over-all low-key technique was very good.

I like your submitted version best. The warm colors are perfect. I would have liked to see the timing better so the smoke was just leaving his lips, but otherwise this was a great shot. I love the glow of the cigar end. I too rated this an 8. I didnt feel it looked over sharpened at all.

Thanks all. I really wanted the smoke but it was very windy so it kept just blowing away.

I'll have to check into the sharpening again. This was shot at 1/30, f1.8, iso1600. I did run a very light Neat image but noise seemed very acceptable even on the original.
