Dear DPCers,
In light of the recent discussions about what is art, why do we take photographs and general rants about scores, I thoroughly recommend this [a href="//luminous-landscape.com/columns/sm-03-06-01.shtml"]article[/a] from the luminous landscape about cliches in photography and, especially, the comments about taking photographs for ourselves or not.
Read on dear reader.
*edited* to try and get the html links hyperlinked. How do you do that here?

Here's the link.
(You can just click on the little globe thingy at the top of your box, or do (url=//etc)name of url(/url) replacing the parenthesis with brackets. |

Thanks Koriyama for the links. For those who don't want to go there and read the complete stuff (you seriously should) here is what was most relevant to me
As with many things, photography is often about self-confidence. The point is not so much to learn what other people like ΓΆ€” that's ultimately a fool's errand ΓΆ€” but to learn what you like. Only by identifying your own concerns and becoming comfortable with your own taste will you stand a chance of developing an organic style, or signature, or way of seeing, that is neither imitative ("designed to be like something else, but usually inferior to the original") or derivative.

Actually, the Luminous Landscape has a number of very insightful articles covering a wide range of photographic areas.
Unlike Tarique, I won't provide tasters. Just check out the stuff for yourself. You'll be happy you did.

I hope my reputation is enough to make people click on the link, I won't provide tasters on Koriyama's thread either ;O)
