I was surprised these didn't do better:

(Not many people like grittiness I think.)

I like the use of light; the balancing shadows are great, as is the hint of motion given by the swirls in the background.

This was my #1 pick overall (it came in 13th).

I really enjoyed this forum and then I saw this post.
It almost brought a tear to my eye ... this was a very personal image that finally did half-way decent.
Thanks for the support :)

This was one I scored very high, it came in 84th:

A few more that I thought would have scored higher:

I gave yours a 10, too, metatate. LOVED that photo!

OK, I think I know some of the reasons why this bombed.... please share your thoughts... I didn't get many comments during voting so all feedback gratefully received...

I think maybe because the 'hand' in the photo is not in sharp focus may have caused some lower scoring, although the Hand of Cards was actually the main subject... maybe the 'blood' didn't work and my subject was too obscure... it was meant to represent the 'famous' Dead Man's Hand that was being played by wild Bill Hikock when he was shot in the back....

This was one of my faves, placing 20th not too bad but I really expected it in the top ten

39th!? deserved better

49!? the concept is great and the technicals are good

96!!?
This was also one of my top 20 faves. It is just a tad overexposed, and the DOF short but I quite like the effect. If the 2nd hand was in focus , would've scored better but 96th it is not.

As great as this image is I'm guessing it didn't win because the subject wasn't quite the hands. It would be interesting to see how well this would have done in the Low Key challenge.

17th place, but one of my top picks!

38th place...another that I think should have scored higher.

Edit to actually put the photos in this time. Sheesh.

I admit - I had higher hopes for my own submission. I know that there is lint on the background (it's a piece of wool), but with basic editing, I couldn't get them out.

I still thought it was an good shot. But I think I'm pretty much alone in that opinion.

Such is learning - nowhere to go but up.

I liked yours Kashi. I also really liked saintaugust's picture. I also think we all enjoyed this one and expected it to ribbon and were dissapointed when it didnt. =D

Thank you for commenting on mine, Perfecti0n. :)
I'm happy with my placing. I predicted within the top 30 or 40, and hit the nail on the head.
I thought I would have the only "chick" photo in the Challenge. LOL Elsapo did it better, and his ribbon was well-deserved. Here they are, side-by-side. His is better because it shows older and younger hands, is emotive, and has better tone and detail.
Mine:

Elsapo's awesome photo:

I think that Elsapo is definitely going places with his photography. This "kid" is talented!
