i know there plenty of time to the end of the water challenge, however, i have seen this happen before where there would be alot of submissions, such as free studies that range in the 600-800 submissions, with only 200 to 300 votes. This in my opinion is not fair. I always make a point of voting on all the submissions that fall under the challenge that I have entered. I believe that if one wants his photo to be rated, he has the duty of rating all other pics. There is nothing more frustrating than seeing 300 submissions, meaning 300 partcipated, but only getting 100 votes on your own submission. So, i hope all of you who have submitted your pictures, will vote. It's fair treatment.

there are many members (I fall under this category) who choose not to vote on the challenges they participate in. I personally find it harder to be objective when I'm involved - someone posted voting stats showing that people's average vote is lower when they were participating in the challenge. Now THAT is unfair treatment.

Besides, once you get over 100 votes, your score is pretty much settled in pretty close to where it will end up. Now, if you just want to get your pic seen by a lot of people, then just make sure your shot is either really good, or really bad, then you'll get a lot of extra views :-P

I don't feel that I'm unfair when I vote on challenges I'm entered in, so I vote on them, but many times I'll get to whatever % above 20%, and something will distract me. At this point in my life, I'm so busy it's amazing that I spend any time voting or entering at all. Much less for commenting, which is what I really like to do, but won't unless I can spend time on what I put there (barring one-off, flippant/humor comments)

I generally don't vote in challenges I'm entered in either. Try as I might to be objective when voting in the same challenge, I don't think I am as much as I should be.

People go both ways, and I see both reasons.

I know on a few challenges I've entered my votes have been lower. I myself am not sure if it is due to the quality of the challenge or some hidden motivation.

Take the water challenge, my votes have been much lower than average. Is this because I am entered into the challenge? Not sure...I try not to be affected but maybe I'm more critical. On the other hand....maybe it's the challenge. I mean how many waterfalls and drops can one vote on before they get sick of them. In truth, I feel creativity was all but lacking in said challenge. Also, a lot of the scenic shots seemed to have blown out skies. So I found myself giving those lower than normal scores. So my avg. for this vote is likely to be low. Is it coincidence or am I noticing flaws I wouldn't. Who the heck knows.

In my case, I try to vote when I can.

This is my philosophy. If I have entries. I try to vote on one of the challenges.

I can see both side, I personally love to vote. I have no idea why but I always look forward to voting even if I have entered or not entered.

when i vote i always give ppl high scores unless there is something technically wrong with their photo, it is just how i feel it should be done. But i often don't vote because i have alot to learn about photography and i feel that my votes would be inaccurate. : /

yep, I only vote on the challenges that I'm not entered in, cause I feel I'm always comparing to my own otherwise.

I don't agree with the feeling that you shouldn't vote on the challenges you enter. I'm especially interested in having other people who have entered the challenge vote on my entries. You are the people who know the most about what is involved in the challenge and I respect your judgment.

I'm also concerned that if the people who are entering lots of challenges don't vote on them, the group that does vote will represent the less skilled and less knowledgeable participants. I'm not putting down the people who don't enter lots of challenges--it is just that I think people become both better phototographers and better critics by entering lots of challenges. I want these people to vote more not less.

I vote mostly 80% of entries. I'm a new person to this site, I enjoy seeing peoples ideas. yes,I do vote higher on creative or exceptional pictures. but isn't important for us all to vote and to vote fairly based on the picture itself and not to compare it to our picture.
if you dont vote whats the point of having this contest.
