So this weekend I was stopped at a traffic light at one of the busier (and more....uh, urban) intersections in town. I looked across the street and there was a man on a horse waiting at a "Walk/Don't Walk" sign. In regular clothes, in the middle of they city, in front of a beeper store. In short: "D'Oh! I wish I had my camera!"
So it made me wonder what kinds of things you guys wish you have seen and had been able to take a photo of. Any other good stories?
Help me get through Monday...
Rob

Once I was driving home from work, and the car next to me had a dog hanging out the window, as dogs often do in cars. I looked closely at the dog - it was a white poodle type dog (with that curly fur). The funny part was, about half of the dog looked like it had been dyed green. Yup, half the fur looked like it was bright green, then faded from trying to wash it off or something.
Worst part is, I actually have a tiny little 1.3 MP credit-card camera

that I should keep in my shirt pocket every day, but I always forget it on days when there's something good.

I was walking down the street in Portland Oregon...on the East side of Portland where no-one walks unless they're packing something other then their lunch....and passed out in a corner of a building ( I think he was passed out...he could have been dead I suppose) was a man wearing a pink bodysuit....complete with leotards and a tu-tu! Now that was definately a Kodak moment! Unfortunately, my camera was 30 miles away in Wilsonville Oregon! Oh well, maybe next time...

So, what were you packing? Sounds like you've given yourself away here.

I missed one of those once-in-a-lifetime shots
I was looking out my kitchen window and my cat was sitting on the edge of a bank leading down to a lower area of the yard. A deer started up the bank and when it's head cleared the edge right next to the cat, both jumped. Then for a brief moment they both leaned out to sniff one another.. nose to nose. I could only hold my breath and watch. This was pre-digital cameras and waaay pre-dpc. Now I would probably have a camera within reach just because I was looking out the window. :)

I was having coffee in the shopping centre under canary Wharf one day, looking around, and in the window of one of the clothes shops was a child hugging the legs of one of the window-dummies (a male one) and gazing up at it's face ... the best candid shot i've ever seen ...

Now THAT would have been worth a quick trip to the corner store for a disposable camera, and hurry back to click! LOL
There have been too many shots "missed" to count... my kids sit in the back seat of the car and say their mantra "Mom, don't go anywhere without your camera, then". :) |

When we were in San Francisco waiting at a stop light we saw a homeless man in front of a liquor store. He was shirtless and his right arm was made completely from duct tape. He had a coat hanger type thing in the end for a hook. I had my camera, but declined the shot for fear of getting a beating from his more able-bodied friends.

I was riding my bicycle last week and I passed an acqueadoct (Bad Spellers Unite!) that was going uphill, it was a long wide path going up with trees on both sides. then going down the hill was a mother, her kid and dog, the mother was walking down while the kid and dog were just running around. all of this was at sunset too. Such an amazing moment, and i missed it. Oh well. |

This May I was on the back of the property looking for a fawn. I had taken pictures of the fawn a week earlier, and wanted to get some more. I stopped to program my camera because I thought I was probably getting close,..... and I was. The fawn was sleeping next to my left foot and I didn't know it. When he awoke and bolted it scared the boogers out of me, and all I ended up with was some very long range shots. I had my camera, but now I program it as soon as I get outside. The pictures from the week before are still my all time best wildlife shots.

My most frustrating experience came last Wednesday on the way home from work. I was on my motorcycle, and some summer storms had just passed through, it was still mostly overcast. I looked to the left, and saw that the sun had appeared very low in the west, silouhetting a beautiful rural scene. The intervening dust and haze had turned the disc a bright red, with two thin, twisting horizontal bands of cloud crossing it, showing incredible detail in silouhette.
What's the trouble, stop & shoot, right? Well, yes, I did have my camera with me, but it was my just-purchased 10D, still in the box!

I was kicking myself yesterday for not having my camera. My wife and I take care of our 7 year old granddaughter at her house on days that our daughter and son-in-law are both working. Most of the time I take my camera along but not yesterday. While on a nature walk in the yard I found 3 or 4 different species of colorful mushrooms, and there were several photo-ops of garden spiders. I took it along today and there was the next thing to a cloudburst |

I was actually packing a newspaper that had the directions of the blood donation center on it! This was back in the days when I had to sell my blood to pay for college!
