Is it legal in the Advanced rules to take a bracket exposure and then merge the resulting images into a final image? |

Bummer. I wonder why not? It seems that it is similar to dodge/burning a photograph but with a little better results. With a digital camera, it is the same picture from the image sensor. |

If you shoot in raw you can convert the same pic twice, once for highlights and once for shadows then blend the two, I believe this is legal.

Under the current rules, your entry must come from a single photograph. Peecee is correct that you may convert the same image twice.

Yeah... I thought about that as well. With RawShooter I can output two different images from the same RAW file with only adjusting the exposure slider. Then make them layers in Photoshop and do the merging.
Must keep in mind that this is legal in advanced...
