This last week I got to do a bit of traveling from our university to an area where alot of Minority Chiense (Hani people) live. I've never really been much for people shots in gereral but the cloths they wear and their lifestyle are so great I couldn't help it I also managed to get model releases signed.

I'm going to be able to go back to this area for two or three weeks in a month or so, and I was wondering if I could get some feedback on the shots. Since I really know nothing about portrature any tips would be really appreciated!

And the pictures would be good to post as well...gosh I'm clever!

I suppose 'Portrait Shots' might be more appropriate than 'Model Shots' but anyways, any comments greatly welcome!

Hi,

I've left you comments on all four images. The two I like best are the mother with child and the man with the pipe shown full length. These are the two that tell a story about the Hani culture and give me some understanding about how it differs from our culture.

Keep up the good work!

From Seattle, to DU, to China. I like your progression. I have a friend who is working in Seattle and says I should come visit, especially because he knows I am into photography. He says drive less than an hour and you can find great places to hike, check out waterfalls and such. Would you concur? And thanks for relating your experience in China to all of us back East...or West.

You can find some excellent places to hike, and many that aren't even an hour away. Waterfalls, vistas, meadows, forests, flowers, and all kinds of other fun stuff! It was hiking around there that really got me interested in photography in the first place.

Thanks for the comments, especially on the one you didn't like as much. That really helps me get a bit of a feel for what the 'point' of the photo should be.
