Some people have commented that Gary Fong's wedding photography is average and that may be; beauty is in the eye and all that. What seems to be slightly more objective and observable is that Gary Fong is a consummate capitalist. He's built his wedding business to the point where he requires what most would consider an exorbitant fee (he listed $100,000 per wedding on his website in 2005). By any account he's insanely successful selling his photography accessories (LightSphere line of merchandise not to mention the books, prints, etc) and he's had some part in launching Pictage (although he apparently didn't start that site like some online sites say).
His name has become a legend in his own time in regards to his commercial viability as a photographer. I would think that his name is probably as well-known in the US as a contemporary like Dennis Reggie who I think is more respected for his artistic wedding results than his marketability (not meaning to take anything away from Gary's reputation, he's earned it).
Obviously he's not as successful as Bill Gates but I think you could liken his business savvy vis~a~vis his photography mastery to Bill Gates knowing to obtain licenses back in the 70's and 80's; he's a shrewd customer regardless of anything else (and his photography seems OK to me but perhaps not worth $100K per day).
Hopefully that'll give you some idea why its a cool thing for someone like him to mention DPC. It'd be something like Gates mentioning a computer repair store that you started with your high-school pal on Microsoft.com.

I saw that, then he had to post a couple of links to show that he talked about Gary first. I found it quite hilarious. You people really pissed him off. ;o)

Ya really want to stop ignoring them if you are going to be around the 'net much. They are a CRITICAL part of communication here. :) |

You can't hate the hype and love Gary Fong at the same time because, as Kevin Riggs has pointed out in politically correct terms, Gary Fong is the hype.
Edited to add: :) :) :)
