| I joined a camera club this year, and they have quarterly competitions. The first one was judged last month. They got 4 judges (from somewhere, but not club members, and with backgrounds in photography) and these judges were to leave comments and scores. They read the comments and gave the scores at last night's meeting. It was surprising to me that it went much like the challenges here. Contradicting comments, high/low scores on the same image, etc. All knew photography, but all had different perspectives. |

That is because it is ART.
My daughter and I went to the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. To me, some of that stuff is pure crap. A plain white canvas...PLEASE DON'T INSULT MY INTELLIGENCE. A pile of light bulbs on the floor. Beautiful. Could we get the custodian in here to clean this up please?
But you know what? Somebody probably paid A LOT of money for that ART once. It's all in the eye of the beholder.
That being said...damn trolls.

There is a piece of commissioned art in Mobile Municpal Park that I think should have stayed in the scrap yard. But hey, I guess either my tax dollars or some generous donation paid good money for it, so who am I to say it looks like hammered dog crap?

I agree - art, including the photographic kind, is highly subjective and a whole lot of it is crap (some literally).
