Does anyone know if the sponge tool is allowed for advanced editing?

Pretty much the same as the dodge/burn tools, so yeah.

And, if used correctly can keep your image from multiplying. ;-)

It's a bad joke, referring to a certain contraceptive sponge. And yes, it's definitely legal. I use it all the time.

I don't think anyone is anymore, at least in USA; they took 'em off the market 'cuz of causing cervical cancer, I believe it was.

I believe the major health problem with the Today contraceptive sponge was an unacceptably high incidence of Toxic Shock Syndrome, usually due to a particular strain of (I think) Staphylococcus aureus. Too bad because it was pretty popular and relatively easy to use.

Desaturation using the Photoshop Sponge is generally safe, though people with a history of CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome) may exacerbate their symptoms with excessive use ...

Also note - exacerbating can be cause for a DQ as was the case with shutterpug and fotomannforever. ;-)
