A friend of mine is getting married next month. I did her engagement photos (for free, because she is a friend!), and she asked me if I would do her wedding (for free), to which I agreed. It was going to be my present to her and her future husband. I had to buy a few pieces of equipment, because she is going to have an evening wedding. So, I thought that since I am saving her literally thousands of dollars, it would only be understood that she would pay for a hotel room for me, right? We talked about it and she said that it will be OK. So, yesterday I e-mailed her a contract, since I still wanted to have a release to use her photos as I need, and just to verify asked her if she is still planning to cover my hotel stay. And you will never guess what happened next.

I got to work today and in my e-mail box I saw an e-mail from a woman that was supposed to send me an invitation to this same friend's bridal shower (the bride wanted for me to take pictures for her, for free, of course). Instead, when I opened the e-mail, I saw that this woman was replying the bride (she sent it to me by mistake) and at the bottom of the screen I saw my e-mail regarding the contract and hotel expanses. And, again, you will never believe what I read in the e-mail...

It was presented as if I wanted to shoot this wedding just to add it to my portfolio and that I offered my services myself, and I had the nerve to ask the bride and the groom to pay for hotel. Can you believe this?!

Of course, I e-mailed the woman back to let her know that she e-mailed me and not the bride and to "thank" her for her "honest opinion". I also sent an e-mail to the bride.

Can you believe this? I am on the edge today...

What was your worst experience in photography?

I hate when stuff like this happens when you're just trying to be nice! Good for you for calling the other person on it.

On this one family portrait I did, the mother asked me if I would consider donating a 1 hour photo session for her church's silent auction. I agreed. A couple days later she calls and asks me if I would donate another session for the auction, but I humbly declined that one.

So the "silent" auction ends, and the next day she tells me that 2 different people somehow thought that they won, and asked me (quite diligently) if I would donate another session for this other person. I told her that I was happy to do the one as agreed upon, but not the second as I was very busy. How the hell can two people think they win in a silent auction? That doesn't make sense to me.

I think she signed me up for 2 sessions for the auction without asking me first thinking I would do both, and then choked when I declined the second one. That just makes me look like the bad guy as if I had backed out of something that I had agreed to do.
