Gah, I bought a new printer yesterday, and Epson stylus photo R220, I printed off my first image and it just looks green.
In GIMP it looks fine, there's nice grey in it, but when I print it just looks green.

Anyone had any similar issues and any tips as to how I can get around this?

I bought this printer because it had a black cartridge and not just one all purpose one, someone's got to know how to help me.

Possibly an issue with colour profiles?

The printer SW that came with my Epson allows me to check a black ink only box under preferences in the preview screen. Using this has stopped color casts on my B&Ws.

You say that it looks grey in GIMP.

Did you check the color profiles or do something absolute like desaturate to verify that the image really has no color?

A quick use of the eyedropper tool should suffice if you aren't sure.

when printing b/w on a color printer you almost always have to tell the printer in the setup that you want to use pure black ink. Otherwise it mixes all the other pigments to obtain the black and will almost never get it. If you use pure black then you will be a lot better off. Can you epson also take the grey inks that some can, this would help too.

Good luck.

Perfect, that's exactly what I had to do. I knew there would have to be something simple which I just hadn't spotted.

The nice thing with this printer is that all the set up info is in english rather than Portugese, that made using my old one a real pain.

For the record, the green cast is called "mesmerism" and it's a common problem trying to do B/W prints with color inks.
