Maybe no connection, but I noticed that my drop in score coincided with comments from brand new members (4 of them new in the past 10 days, 2 of those joined in the past 2).
It's got me wondering if maybe brand new members tend to vote more heavily on whether they like the subject/treatment than on a combination of all the factors?
If so, I imagine that after reading other comments after challenge's end they'll realise just how much should be taken into account when judging.
Thoughts, anyone? |

Hanging pretty steady now. I was hoping for a 6+ in this Challenge, but I'll be happy if it stays around this level, too. That will get this one on my Profile page and knock off an old one that I'm bored of seeing. :)
BeeCee, I haven't checked into it that closely, but I'll look at some profiles from commenters and see. I think you may be right. After being here awhile, you learn what appeals to the "masses" and how photos are likely to be judged. My own scores have gone up some since I've started taking comments seriously...although there are always mixed opinions, too. (For example: One voter will say, "Too sharp", and the next will say, "Love the sharpness!" LOL)
I used to notice that I would get lower scores from Non-Camera voters. Now that I've tried the "mass appeal" idea that I learned from a discussion here, the Non-Camera people like mine better.
It seems that the subject/treatment is still the biggest factor for voters. I took a ton of shots for this Challenge and asked non-DP, non-photo-nut friends which they liked best. Going on their suggestions, I changed from my original choice and submitted a different shot. Getting the viewpoint of people NOT involved in photography helps. |

Hmmm...I wonder if I've voted as far as yours yet, Rikki. I usually end up leaving comments on your wonderful images, without even knowing it's you! Your art appeals to me. :)
I guess I had better finish voting this Challenge. I saw quite a few 9 and 10 worthy photos! I like all the different ideas I saw! |

BeeCee, that reminds me of something: in footwear challenge, my average vote from commenters was 8.6 (sic!), while the overall average was 5.9; wouldn't it be nice to give the votes of commenters a higher weight (for example, double) than those without comments...

I don't understand this comment. Your average vote from all users is exactlly the same as the average with camera. So the non-camera user(s) didn't effect your score. It may have only been one person who voted without camera....

Edit: Psst...does anyone else besides goodman have a 6.+ score? Trying to guess which percentage I'll fall into. ;)

Yea, it's not a bad camera phone though. It's like 1.3 megapixels. I'm saving for a good camera, my friend got me into it. Appreciate the recognition but you guys are still killing me.

Im still hanging around 6.6, and while Justin (elsapo) hasn't been heard from since vote 3 he had a 8.3, so he has to be a stealth favorite to ribbon.

BrennanOB, your score is UP there! Great job. I agree that elsapo must be doing well again...no word! I'm hoping for maybe top 30 or 40, if I'm lucky...hard to say, with so many on the down-low.
