As far as i know canon's warranty is worldwide, Nikon is the stickler on country of origin.

this warranty issue has always bothered me - i understand the business reasons for it, but c'mon - i can move to another country tomorrow and what, no warranty comes wiht me?
I'm traveling, biz or vacation, and it breaks - no warranty till i get home? SO i buy a new one...and no warranty when i get home on it then.

b&h does honor warranty on grey market items they sell - call them and ask about grey market they don't sell.

Ans i too never uuse a warranty on electronics. new cars maybe, but nothing else.

I have also, never used warranty, but if you live in the US and something goes wrong with the camera, you ship it, a week later, it's back...hopefully! If it's not US warranty, you have to ship it back to where you bought it, in this case, Hong Kong, and wait for weeks to recieve it back, that is if they hurry. It's just a good "knock on wood" type gesture to get one with a local warranty.

I believe that I saw something recently that Canon will not accept shipments from outside the US for service now.

As somebody who has moved countries a bit, it's just stupid (but not as bad as the DVD region coding rubbish - easy enough to get around, just annoying).
