Hi everyone,
I just wanted to know: how does the 300D from Canon compare to the 350D? What are the differences?
Thanks in advance :)

Essentially a 300D is a watered down 10D and a 350D is a watered down 20D, both in plastic bodies instead of aluminum/magnesium. By watered down I mean, fewer controls and features but they have the same sensors. |

10/20/30 and 300 all take the same battery, the 350 has it's own battery and a slightly smaller size overall that some like and some don't.
300 is 6mp, the 350 is 8.
the 300 cna only do eTTL flash, the 350 can do eTTL2

I like my XT and bought it before I held it. I thought it was too small but that is me. My quick fix was a bettery grip.
The best suggestion to you is to go hold them and see which you like best.

350 has significantly better high-ISO performance than the 300. This is perhaps the single, most important difference. MUCH less noise at higher ISO.

300D = 2.5fps small image buffer 4 shots - 4 RAW
350D = 3fps large image buffer 23-27 shots - 6 RAW |

I don't really think noise is a problem...unless you're a pixel peeper, then you might care about noise. No doubt the 300d and 350 are both better than a d70 at ISO 1600, that's noticeable.
I took a bunch of shots this weekend at ISO 1600...ran them through neat image, then adjusted this or that in photoshop, and now I have some perfect, virtually noise-free 5x7's sitting infront of me...besides, sometimes you want the noise.

The 350D is instant power on. The 300D takes a few seconds from either the off or sleep mode. That's one feature that I really like. Sometimes you miss the shot because the camera is asleep and takes a while to wake up.
I'm sticking with my 300D because I like the feel of it better (oh, and I can't afford to switch right now). I would suggest holding them both, see what feels right in your hands. If you like the feel of the 300D better, like I do, compare the features and decide if the upgraded feature set of the 350D is worth the trade off. You may find that it it. |

I agree about the time lag on start up.
I have held both the 300 and 350 and the 300 is bigger and feels more substantial to the hold, I have big hands so feel more comfortable with the bigger camera.
Just need a battery grip now and it will feel even better.

Thanks a lot everyone for all these infos :)
Is the 300 generally much cheaper than the 350D or is it just minor?
Also, I don't understand what that means:

You mean that with the 300D you can take 4 pics in one shot or 4 RAW pics and with the 350D you can take 23 shots or 6 RAWs? (sorry but I'm still a beginner in photo and my english is a bit rusty lol)
Also what is the difference with Rebel models and Non-Rebel models please?
Thanks again :)
Best regards |

Its how many consecutive shots you can take before the buffer is full, then you have to wait for it to clear until you can take another shot!

in 'drive' mode for continous shooting the 300D can take 4 shots and then it has to write them to the CF card. RAW or jpg, it does not matter. The 350D can do 23 or so jpg or 6 RAW before it has to pause to write the files.
In the US 300D is the Rebel, the 350D is the RebelXT. In europe i think they are called KISS or something like that.
Non-rebel models? Like 10D, 20D, 30D, 1Dn, 1Ds? These are semi-pro and pro models.
Cheaper? as in less expensive, yes - older less technologically afvances, fewer MP, slower start up time, USB 1 vs 2, etc.

Drive mode on 300D is useless, you can only take 4 images and after that the buffer is full. That might be one of the main reasons to go with a 350. I haven't heard about the iso, but if that has also improved on the 350 then there you have another good reason to go with that.
I love my 300D, but the things that I reeeeally want are a full-frame sensor and a bigger buffer for burst shooting... I'm wishing for a 5D soon :) |

hehe...the sensors are the same size...the 350d has more pixels, so logically the answer would have to be yes.

Crayon, a secondary note on sensors that each generation of sensor usually purports to have better microlenses or something that makes the individual photosites cover a larger area.
It's not however enough to compensate for the difference in photosite size between the 300D and the 350XT.
The 300D is still bigger.
Technology has moved forwards in other areas though, which is why the 350XT is able to have much lower noise. |

You should get the 20D instead. I regret not saving up for it now. |

I have a couple of big bills I'm trying to pay off, but after that I might try to get the 20D. Did you see my theory about the 20D coming down in price now that the 30D is out? |

I've looked at the 20D on eBay, and I don't see that any prices that are significantly better than what I can get down at Glenn's Fair Price brand new. |
