During the voting process many of us write and receive numerous comments and questions for a given challenge entry, subsequently displayed with our image after the challenge has ended.
SITE SUGGESTION: I would love to have an 'option' to add a response to comments/questions as we receive them. These responses would be displayed (following the comment) and posted AFTER the challenge is OVER (like comments are now).
This response option could give YOU the opportunity (IF DESIRED) to address questions or criticisms that are often posed during the voting process. Again, this (optional) comment response would only show up following the comment, after the challenge is over. Anonymity would STILL be preserved during the voting. All comments and associated responses would be presented in an orderly fashion for others to clearly read.
Below is an example of how I imagine the 'responses' could follow their 'comments' (Please ignore the jargon - display purposes only).
I feel this site modification (if feasible) would be beneficial to all participants in the voting/commenting process, and hope the powers at be make it a consideration.

I don't know if it's really useful. If you are concerned about answering a commenter's question, then just send them a PM because otherwise they may never see your response. And if the question is a common question/suggestion asked by a lot of people, instead of writing a response to each one (or to just one in particular), leave a general comment instead.
The general comment would be different from post voting comments, and be created during the challenge voting period, and not be seen until after the voting is over so it won't effect voting. What is actually better about this is your reply/comment would appear at the top of the user comments (below after voting comments) and stick out more to people, rather then having to find the reply in the middle of a bunch of comments so it's more likely that users would see it immediately.
So for example, your 2 responses in your example could be combined into just 1 "general" comment which would be located at the very top of the user comments. You could continue to modify your comment, based on new user comments, as needed until voting is over. :)

I like your 'general comment' idea also, but I could still see a use for my initial suggestion.

I like both of your ideas. I sometimes wish we had this feature already.

Doesn't the photo page allow us to comment on our own photo after voting, thereby giving us this facility anyway? We can write a general comment on our photo anytime after the voting has ended.
I don't like the fact that if I do comment during a challenge, my anomynity is lost. I've had both good and negative responses to my comments so far, one bordering on the downright aggressive (resolved peacefully, I hope). Can't comments, like votes, remain anonymus until after voting has ended? |

Well, I like your idea! There's so many comments I'd like to reply to but I feel weird actually sending the person a note... then its like I'm angry and coming after them or something, haha. |

One general comment can be left, yes... but if you read my initial post, that is not what I was suggesting. Please read my initial post again for what I think are valid reasons for my suggested change. Also, the sentence "Anonymity would STILL be preserved during the voting" is clearly displayed in said post.

Actually, I didn't quote you, Casualguy, because I was responding to the thread as a whole. I like your idea, however. And your ideas are entirely valid. The question isn't that. The question is whether they are necessary or not.
I was just trying to support Chris's point that a single general comment was possible. |

I like the idea.
It would allow for continued discussion and comments on the given photos. You could discuus techniques and etc all in one location and you would not have to jump from the photo to the forum.

Some people just like to confront and argue ,even on the photo comment, just go to Walmart and argue with the cashier!
The way it is now is fine,if you don't like the comment don't check it as helpful!

Although comments can be helpful even if they're not what we want to hear, there are some comments that are just plain useless. I don't know how many times I get "focus" ... well of course I knew that ... but when they actually point out what should be more in focus and what shouldn't - thats when they deserve a check! |
