I need a printer that can print studio quality 8X10" prints. Is there such a machine on the market. I will be willing to spend about $1000 USD for it.

Epson R1800 or the bigger Epson R2400
or The Canon i9990 or the HP Designjet 110plus
There are alot of great photo printers out now! |

I looked those up. They look pretty sweet. I particularly liked the Epson R2400. But does it make $500 studio prints that look as good as those I get at least from walmart photo center?

I have the R1800 it rocks the most. It gives perfect prints! Every time I make a print I can't believe my eyes. It is as if it were imaged & processed with chemicals. The R1800 will print up to 13x19 so you might want to consider saving the money from not buying the 2400 and get a lens. :)
Good luck! |

Along with that great printer (whichever you choose, I love me Epson R300 btw) make sure you are using a quality paper. I've printed stuff that turned out great only to have it look like crap when I try and reprint it on a lower quality paper later on (that and they were sticky...not understanding that). I wish...well actually my wife wishes, we had on of the wide format ones like that r1800...dang thats cool.

For sure use the best paper and ICC profile to get the best prints. |

What are you printing? There ARE lots of great printers now, but I'm not sure if any of them are quite up to a professional printer like a Walmart would have, specifically in the color gamut. So if you have something that's got a really wide gamut maybe you could run into something you'd notice compared to one of these Fuji machines.
Also keep in mind that what you are getting going this route is convience and immdiate results. Cost-wise this is likely a much more expensive route in the long run then having prints done by a Walmart etc, especially in that size.

Yes coleman it does will cost a lot more to print. But the customers seem to willing to pay for the instant gratification. So with a lap top with photoshop loaded and a realy good printer I think I can give them what they want. for a price..
