Two pics that I have procrastinated on post-processing since September. Don't ask me why, I have no idea. Just re-discovered them in my portfolio and decided to give them their due time. Comment are appreciated.

Pug, Love the colors in both. The nice tints in the sky and the greenery in the 2nd. I have seen so much of your excellent work and am new, can I ask you. I have read where ISO 800 and higher creates a lot of noise but these look great??? Do you use that setting a lot?

(Also, I was looking for a Pug hiding in the trees :O) LOL)

I try to avoid the high ISO settings. Especially when I was shooting with the 300D as the noise can be horrendous. It was close to dusk when these were shot, so I didn't have any other option - especially with the walkway. The sky scene went through Neat Image once, but the walkway made two trips through. Just in case you're not familiar with it, Neat Image is a software used by many to clean up excess noise.
As for a pug in the trees, I would have taken one, but they can't make it up the steep climb to the top of the mountain. They only get to come when I'm staying down on the walkways and footpaths.

Glad you liked them - thanks !

You will also notice that the camera ShutterPug is using is a 20D. It is well known as one of the best cameras out there for having excellent noise characteristics.

Large pixels and a cool-running sensor type (CMOS) lead to some really fantastic noise levels.

ISO 800 is often quite usable in many situations.

Olympus tends to be one of the noisier sensors due to a hotter sensor type (CCD) and smaller pixels (there's the same number of pixels, but they are squished into a much smaller area).

Olympus cameras usually correct for this with stronger noise reduction, which keeps the noise down, but will soften the whole image and reduce fine details.

You would probably be better off being careful how you shoot at ISO 400 and above on the Evolt.

It's a different set of equipment.

For more information read the reviews on DPReview.com for the 20D and the Evolt-500.

these pics were actually shot with the Canon Digital Rebel (300D). I didn't have the 20D at the time.

During the non-snow months, I usually climb it 3-4 times a month, someimtes more. I really like it up top there.
