Do you print your pictures yourselves or rely on a photo lab (online or brick and mortar)?

I'm considering getting a canon Pixma 6600

Do you think its worth it with all the photo labs around?

I order from mpix.com (highly recommend!) I find that by the time you buy the printer, the ink, and the paper...it is almost the same price as getting them done professionally. I find it a lot more convenient to have mpix just deal with the printing.

Just my 2c :)

I have a decent printer (Epson Stylus Pro 4000) and do all my own printing.

The issue with printing is quality control...

It'll probably cost you more to print your own pictures on your own printer than it does to have a photo lab do it and they have special expensive software called RIPs that can make them even better.

Making your own prints will cost you extra for calibration hardware/software, printer profiles, paper, ink and probably other expenses and will require you to understand a lot more about printing than you ever really wanted to know.

But if you want to maintain artistic control of the final result then doing your own printing may be the best way to go.

Thanks for the replies.

Have you tried flickr.com? Are they any good? I have an account there too.
