Looks highly likely that I will be on a business trip to the aforementioned places next week, probably flying out Wednesday and week-ending over to come back the following week. I have been to Washington a few times before but never with a camera.
So...
Any recommendations for good places to visit in the area to practice my photog skills? I am probably more into architecture and landscape on this trip, if that helps, and want to avoid the normal tourist traps (although I so love the Smithsonian).
I will probably only get time at the weekend, although rumour has it that the team intends to work through the weekend too! Sigh...
Thanks for any advice or help

Not a tourist trap? The entire city is a tourist trap. ;)
Anyway, here's a few:
Library of Congress
houses of Georgetown
all the monuments, particularly at night
The new indian museum
the Old Executive Office Building
C&O Canal, near Great Falls if you like water
Annapolis (historic area)
Old Town Alexandria
Mount Vernon - excellent Potomac River Views
National Zoo
DuPont Circle for people watching
Fish Market for people watching
Gettysburg or Harpers Ferry if you'd rather travel north
Think that's enough to get you started... :) |

The National Building Museum is pretty cool...
Dumbarton Oaks has a great 10 acre garden but I'm not sure how much will be in bloom by next week...
I'm pretty sure you will be close to peak cherry blossom time so heading down to seem them should offer plenty of photographic opportunities but there WILL be plenty of tourists there...

Appreciate the feedback, guys. I am particularly interested to get down to the Potomac River but I just hope I get the time!
Thanks again!
