I appologize for bringing a bit of controversy into your "withdrawl from challenge" thread. You may certianly submit for dq according to current rules - that is your option. I probably overstepped by bringing my opinion into it. It is just an opinion in good faith, and my statements I hope reflect no malice. |

no malice, I was just hoping to understand your point of view. I don't get mad in these forums, I just want to understand. If you feel there is an advantage, I would like to see your point of view. |

Too funny! Not only did it win a brown, it has 14 favorites and over 3200 post-challenge views. ;^)

Damn, if you're out maybe I'll get the brown then. I support your decision though, if I am thinking correctly, by self-DQing then a potentially disasterous LOW score won't be averaged into your "average score" stat. That's how I see it; you can preserve your average score and it doesn't really have anything to do with ribbons, that number is for our own personal goals. |

its not even that, ive left a pretty bad picture for the entire challenge, but thats because it was just bad. this pic was good, just saved poorly.
I DQ'd it because I got tired of the same comments and poor scores. I didn't feel that it represented my work accurately and took it out of the challenge. this was a quality control issue. No one wants a photo that is essentially screwed up. If i had the option, I would re save it at the proper file size and submit it. |

I think for the most part self-dq is a detriment to the integrity of challenges. It is a form of built-in manipulation and allows photographers to skew statistics.
Carelessness in entering (wrong file, wrong challenge), unfavorable comments, embarrassment on the basis of feedback for technical presentation (errors or other wise) or subject (does not meet the challenge) - reflecting upon your score fall into a category of vanity and should not be allowed. |

i see what you are saying, but I don't make the connection to an advantage to anyone. By pulling out of the challenge, I don't see how that changes anyone elses photo/scores.
As for my self DQ, I don't think that is vanity. I think of it like this, if I were at a craft show selling my photos and one of the photos for display had a huge fold in the middle, I wouldn't show it. The photo is tainted. the original is still fine and I would make a new print and display that. My challenge entry original is fine, but the one I put on display for all to see is tainted, so I took it down.
