...one of the threads got me to experimenting with capturing motion with only 2-second exposure. I'm a rank amateur with setting up shots and I'd appreciate comments on my effort. I used an LED pocketlight and f-stop of 2.7.

Why can't you enter? As a registered user you can enter any one of the two open challenges each week...

Edit: Never mind... I was thinking it was an open and obviously it is not...

Nice shot. And, you are taking what this site is designed for and doing well. Keep learning, that's my motto.

Well, not exactly my motto, but well, it's fitting ;-)

To me, that's a good example of low key. Keep up the experiments and enter one in the low key challenge.

OMG, I practiced 2 hours too soon! If I could have only known what the next challenge would be... :(

But thanks all for the positive comments. I just wasn't sure how technically good it was, just knew I liked the effect. Thought maybe you pros could give me some tips on improving it. :)

I'll soon pay... once I can show hubby how much I'm learning here to justify more $$ on my "hobby". I know it's not much and worth SO much more!

Wouldn't the highlights be considered a little high, in other words too much contrast, for a good "low key"? This is all pretty new to me.

My thoughts exactly ;)

I love the idea and imho this would work better with the metranome (sp) on the left and have the negative space on the right?

Just a little more fun the with metronome. Using a flash AND strong contenuous lighting would produce both a frozen and blurred arm. This would further strengthen the idea of motion.

Thanks, I'll try that. My first ones were with continuous light and they worked well motionwise but were ...well, ordinary! Now I'm curious to see the difference with adding a flash. My problem there is, believe it or not, I only have onboard flash, but I'm sure I can juryrig something like I have for everything else so far!

And Ecce, thanks, I agree. I didn't think I was going to get anything I'd like when I started playing, so I didn't even bother with any setup, just plunked the thing down and started shooting :) I guess I should concentrate on details always, eh? You never know when something's going to come together when you least expect it?

I've learned a few things from this one; again, thanks all :)
