I had to share my great experience with Canon service recently. I took my camera in to the service center in Irvine CA last week to have a broken TFT display replaced. I first signed up online to get the ball rolling, then took it in person. Keep in mind, the warranty has been expired for 4 months already.

The nice lady behind the counter looks up my account and tells me that it's already put in the system as "labor only" for some reason and they will not charge me for parts. So $180 for labor only, this is cheaper than I thought it would be. :-) It should be ready in 7-10 working days. It was done in 5.

So I go pick it up, and she starts telling me what they replaced on the camera: TFT assembly, TFT window, shutter release, shutter unit, then they cleaned the sensor and viewfinder and checked all functions to manufacture's specs. I couldn't believe they replaced the shutter mechanisms too for free! With about 50,000 clicks on this camera I guess they figured it was time for a new one. That would've been another couple hundred for that I'm sure. If it were still under warranty I would understand, but they went above and beyond in this case. Almost a new camera for $180! Great service! It could've only been better if they had put in the 2.5 inch display from the 30D instead of the 1.8 inch 20D. ;-)

Anyways, had to share my story.

I'm about an hours drive from there, but felt better taking it in and picking it up in person. Very nice people behind the counter, and quite humbling seeing a number of people in there with their 1DS MKII's with the huge 400 and 600L's. The 70-200IS seems so inadequate next to those big boys.
