Hi everyone:

I would like to ask you for your advice with an issue. I̢۪m planning to buy a new digital camera but I̢۪m on the dilemma to decide which one to get. I̢۪m not a professional photographer but I love photographing a lot. I have two options, the first one is a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT with EF-S 18-55mm kit, and the second one is a Canon EOS 20D SLR Camera and EF-S 18-55mm kit.

I will be using this camera to shoot landscapes, the ocean, macros, night scenes, and places in general around California.

Please give me your professional advice and if you have a better, outstanding photo quality, and cheaper option of camera I̢۪m very open to your suggestions.

I will appreciate your suggestions and time to this posting.

Best Regards.

S@L.

Would you take an amateur's advice?
First of all, between the XT and the 20D, the imaging quality is the same.
What you are paying for is iso 3200, better build, faster/better AF, and other features. Given the same setting with the same parameters and same lens, I'll bet the iamges will look the same. If you need those features of the 20D, then you need a 20D.

If you are into landscapes/oceans, macros, night photog, and "around town" shooting, I don't think you need the possible more toughness or the marginally faster AF of the 20D.

I also think instead of getting the 20D with the kit for about $1200 or so. You should consider getting the XT body only for about $750 and a much nicer lens such as a Sigma 17-70 for under $400. I think this would get you the most bang for the bucks.
