On a photo that has done well in a challenge about how much time goes into post processing?

depends on the shot...

Almost no time or...

Several hours...

I never spend very long processing a shot - maybe 5 - 30 minutes at most. But some shots, tricky ones, I will start over and do it all again several times before I'm happy. That's not the norm though, its the exception.

Most of my time is spent choosing what I want to process.

really depends on the individual shot. Some I spend 15 minutes or so on, then others - like my Square entry I spend much longer on. Not that it helped me as I didnt even make top ten - a slinky made top ten, but not my landscape shot. Oh well. (Not knocking the slinky shot, just dont understand why I am placing so poorly here)

Oddly enough, I usually spend far more time PP on basic entries than advanced entries, because it's much harder to meet my expectations of the image with limited tools. But for the most part, since I got the dSLR. I'm doing relatively little PP. I'd say on average, on an actual challenge entry, 15 mins. But there are exceptions; some shots I work with endlessly, trying different approaches.

Interesting question. The longest I've ever spent on an image was about an hour... and that is, actually, my highest scoring image... Most of the time it's more like 15-20 minutes, though... I think my Lit. Ad. entry i just put in took 18 minutes...

I second what Robert says. It's not as easy to get the results with limited tools in Basic - but of course, I'm a newbie to photoshop so it takes me longer than anyone else! :S

sheesh you guys have some patience...like 10 minutes max for me...if it's not presentable in 10 minutes, I just throw it away.

Hours? No way.
I'm not as impatient as Deapee, but close. Get it right in the camera and you have little PP work to do.

I suppose it depends on your orignial vision, and how close you can come to capturing that.

I usually work pretty fast but my highest rated shots can take hours to play with but not in one sitiing. If I have enough time to get an image shot well before the dealine I take even longer. The images above were all re-edited 3-4 times each. I tried different things....entered them...then pulled them and tried again.

The Can Collector probably has 5 versions as it was my first/earliest try at Dodging and Burning. My lower rated stuff was mostly done quickly, just before the deadline where I couldn't let it sit to rest and re-evaluate.
