So I think I'm going to enter my second Challenge! WaHOO!
(got my fingers ready for the Update button)
I've made 2 versions of my image and I can't choose between them:
The first image is sharper, but has some peripheral noise, but an acceptable amount (in my opinion).
The second has been NeatImaged which reduced the noise, but now seems to have the blurry portrait look, which really isn't the style I want.
Obviously, I want to pick the version that will score better with the DPC community.
I can see the comments already:
For the first: "Too Much Noise!!"
Second: "FOCUS!!!"
(and both, "DNMC") :-)
Neither version will score too well, so I may be nickle-and-diming my way from a 4.85 to a 4.92.
What would you do?

focus focus focus - you'll get dinged much harder for OOF than for a bit of noise.

Post the two versions off site and PM the link to a few trusted friends to give you an objective opinion. If you don't have any trusted friends, I'll volunteer to stand in. |

have you tried taking the Neat Image one and re-sharpening it? I have doen this a couple times with good success.

Perhaps a bunch of Unsharp Mask can fix the second one.

If you're interested, PM me and I'll give you my email address. You can send me both versions and I'll give you my honest oppinion. Just be forewarned that if you choose this route, I will NOT vote on your shot...
People collaborate all the time here. I don't see a problem with it if it's done honestly.

I could give my opinion.... as a registered user I can't vote on it anyway, so it would be totally impartial :D |

Thank you, everybody, for your responses...they helped me with my decision.
I also appreciate the PM'ing offers...and although I chose not to take you all up on it, I am thankful that you were kind enough to offer.
Hopefully, this entry won't flop. :-)
(Since it isn't in Iceland and has no Cheese, I may be in trouble)

Provided it is for an advanced editing challenge take the neat imaged version and layer it over the original. Then create a soft edged mask to allow the original detail to come thru with the neatimaged background.

Excellent idea, David. It is for a Basic, so I'm kinda stuck - otherwise, I would selectively 'fix things' or try your suggestion. Come to think of it, I might just give your suggestion a shot for practice (I need it).
Thanks! |
