Got a comment on a photo recently that kind of,well, surprised me. I'm not mad/angry/put off/upset/whatever, just a little curious. The original photo was of the reflection of a fishing dock in the rippled water of Lake Oolenoy.
Does anyone else see this as overprocessed? Why?
Photo:

I can kind of see where it might come across as something that was really PS'd to death (or at least to abstraction), but here's the original, the only processing done to it was to resize for web.
Original:

I guess I'm kind of curious about the commenter's reaction, because the only post-processing I did was levels, saturation, contrast, and crop. The intention of the photo was more along the lines of an abstract, so here's another question: When does post-processing "cross the line" into 'overprocessed'? Does it depend on the picture or the nature of the picture (abstract vs. realism)? On the photographer? Or on the viewer?

Just curious and would like some more input.

(and thank you to cfischl for bringing this up!) :)

*edit - cause I can't spell!

It's nice to have the original to compare, sometimes. The image is so striking and vibrant that it's almost surreal. Due to it's abstract nature, I suppose the first assumption would be that it's been overprocessed. It looks almost like digital art, and I really like it.

Just remember, there's always a variety of opinions about everything.

Doesn't look especially overprocessed to me. The saturation may be just a tad on the heavy side but I wouldn't be saying that if I had not seen the original to compare.

Considering the nature of the subject, having seen the original, I'd say you made the right choice. You possibly went a tad too far on blue saturation, but all in all it looks about right to me. Very Miro-esque to my eyes. Nice shot!

Maybe a little, but for this particular photo it works wonderful.

I'd agree with Robert that the saturation on the blue is too high... the Red channel is also blown on most of the yellow reflection.
I copied over the original and did what I sould have, then referenced back to your processed version. I was quite a bit lower on overall saturation, but I'm normally a bit conservative there.
