It appears Google Earth now shows the tsunami off the coast of Banda Aceh, Indonesia...? Looks massive! (unless my eyes are shot and I'm seeing things?)
edit: Ummm...or is it a strange massive cloud?

It's amazing how much data Google collects. Maybe in 10 years they'll be our overlords. |

Perhaps but that company does have a long list of people who think the opposite. They include:
- Privacy advocates (Google's personal data collection schemes)
- Freedom of speech advocates (Google agrees to censor content in China per the Chinese government request)
- US government (Google refuses to help the US gov in regards to kiddie porn censorship)
- Copyright advocates (Google is sued all the time over copyright usage that web owners do not want spidered/indexed.)
And that's just a few. I agree their product is great but I personally don't like many of their data collection methods and how they use that data often against the wishes of the actual content owners. The most amazing thing about them IMO is how much they get away with while maintaining a very positive public image in general. That's their biggest success.

| If you like satellite photos, a good place to check is NASA's Earth Observatory site -- they publish interesting new pictures every week. This week, they have a photo of the landslide in the Phillipines, and an interesting one of Apataki Atoll in the Pacific -- be sure to go to the last paragraphs of the description to see how (and by whom) this was made. |
